Chapter 10: Group Effort
Crisp golden sunlight streamed in through the windows and illuminated the room. Wood peckers and sparrows sang a morning song to the world as they flew about. The outside world was cheery and lively, totally in contrast to the inside of this room.
The teacher had just given us a super boring assignment that was very tedious. The only thing that made it better was that we could pair up, and luckily I was paired with Alexia.
We sat down at the far corner of the room away from the others and tore open our textbooks. We read the question together.
'With a partner, draw an image which displays the American Revolution'
"They want us to draw that?" Alexia asked. "That's gonna be too hard and it's gonna take too long".
"Well at least in pairs we can get it done faster", I replied.
She huffed in response and touched the blank paper Mrs. Norman had given us. Then she reached in her bag and took out two pencils.
"I don't know how we're supposed to work on this at the same time"
"The paper's too small, so I guess you do half and I'll do half", I suggested.
"Fine"
Alexia started a light sketch and I sat there in silence. She continued to draw the waters and then the ships, moving the pencil in long graceful strokes. the image was coming out beautifully.
"Where were you yesterday?" she said suddenly.
Huh?
"What do you mean? I told you, I always have dance classes after school."
"Yeah, I know. It's just that I called you after your classes and you wouldn't pick up".
She called?
"After class? I went out with a friend. I must've left my phone in my bag, sorry", I apologized. I couldn't suppress the grin that crept on my face and Alexia must have seen it.
"Nah, it's no biggie. So... Who's the friend?" she leaned in curiously.
"Uh no one really. You don't know him. I mean you probably do, but he doesn't know you", I tried to avoid saying his name as best as I could.
"He? You went out with a he?", a sly grin was plastered on her face. "Now I'm really interested. What's his name?"
"Uhh... Cameron Boyce?"
Alexia just sat there staring at me wide-eyed, mouth gaped. Then she broke out into a laugh.
"Cameron Boyce? Seriously, get real", she paused to take a look at my face and saw how serious I was. "Oh your not joking".
"No I'm serious. He's my dance instructor", I couldn't help but grin as the words came out of my mouth.
"Oh... My... Gosh! Your teacher is Cameron Boyce? Girl that is huge!" Alexia began to screech so loudly that half of the class began to look in our direction.
"Girl, calm down!" I hissed at her.
"Sorry sorry. It's just that... wow! I seriously can't believe it. Can I meet him?" she asked excitedly.
I grabbed the paper from her and began coloring in a rich shade of mahogany.
"Well yeah you could if you're with me when I'm dropped off"
"Really? That'll be so cool!"
In situations like these, I can sometimes be like a sponge; right now I'm soaking up some of Alexia's excitement.
"I know right? It's pretty cool. And you will not believe where we went".
"You went somewhere with him?! Where?" she was basically oozing out excitement and anticipation.
"We went to the nearby 'Orange Leaf' and got some frozen yogurt", I replied grinning from ear to ear.
Her mouth nearby dropped to the floor and her eyes were wide as pancakes.
"You are so lying! No way! Seriously? Omigosh that is so cool!" she was bouncy in her seat giddily.
Now if people were staring before, that was nothing compared to this. The teacher even had to look in our direction and scold us.
"Alexia, Roma. I put you two in groups to work, not to converse".
"Sorry Mrs H."
She looked at us sternly and then turned abruptly to the door. Alexia rolled her eyes at the teacher and we tried to contain our fit of giggles.
"OK LADIES! ATTENTION!"
"Geez, Alexia will you stop screaming like we're in the military?!"
"Well we need to get serious! Mrs. Lockhart is helping us organize everything, but we still need to bring the groups together", Alexia pouted at Nina.
"I know I know. But you almost burst open my dang eardrums!"
Alexia covered her giggle with her hand. "Sorry".
The entire drama club was sitting on the stage of the auditorium, thinking of the different set ups and props for the play. We needed the art club to help work on the different backdrops and the Home Ec. club to work their sewing skills with the costumes. There also needed to be groups for the lighting and sound.
The auditions still needed to be held, but we'll get to that as soon as the script is completed.
Alexia put us all in groups of twos and gave the groups the clubs that they needed to give flyers to. I got paired up with Alexia and we went to give our flyers to the art club. Maria and Nina went to the home economics club, Maya and Marisa to the Technology club, and Lucas and Conner went to the dance club.
The leader of the art club spoke with Mrs. Lilian (the art teacher) and decided that the work would be used as extra credit. The backdrops and props were taken care of, thanks to the art club!
We met up with the others back at the auditorium and the other clubs were glad to help. Now all we have to do is finish the script and hold the auditions.

Sorry for the wait! sorry sorry sorry! I really need to get on track with this. Hopefully in the next couple of chapters I will start the dramatic parts (oooh's and ahhh's in the background). And hopefully the next chapter will be out sooner.. If things run smoothly in school (I kinda did something risky towards a certain crush... Maybe I should tell you guys about that... Maybe later). Anyway I'll try to make the next one longer. Sorry again for the wait. Bye-nee!
