Prologue
Saying goodbye to my children is the hardest and scariest thing I have ever had to do. I snuggle them closer to my chest as Regan slides his arm around my waist, and his free arm snakes over Machala's shoulder. Harper and Harmony are both sleeping in my arms. I never want to let them go. Sighing I nod to Regan that I'm ready and close my eyes.
After Machala had told us of her dream, we had reassured her and comforted her, but the chill running down my body form what she had said was reminder that everything was beginning to change, and we had no way to stop it.
My eyes open and I grin at the sight of my fathers stately home. It is a beautiful building, the stone looks as though it could crumble under my fingers, but elegant at the same time. The gravel beneath my shoes crack's as we ascend up the three steps to the double door entry of the mansion. My own 'big white' house could fit in the entry hall alone. the stairs straight ahead carpeted in dark gold rugs run in the centre with sets running off to the right and left to the different quarters of the building. It has always reminded me of scenes from Hogwarts in harry potter films I have watched, only a lot more elegant. My footsteps echo around us as I hear Machala breath 'wow'.
It is breath taking the first time you see it, and probably the second and third, but I can't let her dawdle to take in all the portraits and paintings, or the hand carved banisters and hand rails. I quickly usher them both to a door to the right of the stairs and walk through.
My father is stood by grand piano smoking his pipe. poofs of grey smoke surround him like an angry cloud. he turns as we enter and quickly try to cover the smoke wafting it with his and disposing of the incriminating pipe. He had quit smoking years ago, but with the obvious stress of everything he had started again, it never bothered me, he is a grown man.
"Oh Isabella, it's so good to see you!"
He steps forward, embracing me loosely as to not crush the twins. When he pulls back he shakes Regan's hand and pecks Machala's cheek.
"follow me, we should get these two settled and then discuss a few things"
We follow him, back out to the stairs and up to the left of the house. he glances every now and then at the twins and I smile sadly, he won't even hold them in fear of dropping them, when he saw them for the first time he was teary eyed and looking like the proudest grandfather in the world, but he still refused to hold them, saying when they didn't look so fragile he would, making everyone in the room laugh, mother said he had been the same with us all, only holding us after 2 or 3 weeks, unless it was absolutely necessary. hopefully he will get over his fear and get stuck in want them to bond with him like they have my mother.
"In here, is the twins nursery, it's not as luxurious as the one your mother did back at your house but she has made it comfortable for them, your mother and I have moved to the bedroom next door so we are closer in the night's."
He smiles as we enter, the room is painted yellow, light ash wood furniture occupies the large space, with two with cribs on either side of the room, oh...Harper will not allow that!. there looks to be everything they will need in here, I lay Harmony In one crib and Harper in the other, hoping that because he is asleep he wont notice. no such look. just as I turn to my father he stirs and I sigh knowing what will come. My father nearly jumps out of his skin from my sons wail, he scuttles over to his crib cooing at him to calm him, looking completely confused as to how a sleeping baby who looked dead to the world was now screaming blue murder, as his sister lay quietly snoozing through it all.
I let Regan deal with it while Machala and I stand to watch. First Regan push's Harpers Crib closer to Harmony's, he quietens for a second but continues again, still not happy with the distance between he and his sister. I can't get over how strong there bond is. Isac and I have a strong link but Harper takes the biscuit.
"What is wrong my little grandson!"
My father frantically tries to sooth him as he continues his cry's of distress. Regan gives up trying to get the cribs as close as possible and in the end removes Harper from his crib placing him in Harmony's its a tight squeeze so I must get my mother to find a larger bed for them, because no matter what we try we cannot place harper away from his sister without him crying a river.
My father sighs running a hand over his face, he picks up the portable intercom and clips it to his belt buckle. I grin as he walks past shaking his head, it's not going to be as easy as he thought, I kiss my children's heads and silently pray to keep them safe.
"They will be safe Izzie. you know Mia would not let them come here unless is was 100% safe for them!"
I nod knowing it is safest but still not loving the idea. Machala can't leave my side, I am the best thing to protect her, but having her close means that the twins need to be as far away as possible! wherever she is danger will follow eventually, everything evil in this world and others is searching for her.
We enter room at the end of the corridor and gasp sound behind me I grin at Machala, we are in the library, and when I say library I do not say it loosely, this thing could be used as a public library no problem, with ceiling to floor bookshelves filled with every book ever published, desks fill the middle of the room, some with books spread other with laptops plugged and ready to use. It is the place of all knowledge, and by the looks of things my father has been busy. I watch him sit at a bigger table off to the right of the room next to a the only window pouring light in. We all sit and wait for what he has to say.
