Everybody Knows

Chapter 12

“The Homesick Kid…I’m Not That Kind Of Person”

“Oh my god! I’ve died and gone to heaven!” I moaned as I marveled in the perfect taste of the sea-salt caramel cupcake that I was currently savoring. It was moist, with an irresistible cream cheese frosting, and a gooey caramel center.

Liam sat across the table from me in the small comfy bakery. He had long ago ate the cupcake I had bought him and was now just staring at me with an amused look.

I licked some of the white frosting off of my finger before addressing it. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Liam frowned before glancing over to a small group of kids who eagerly entered the establishment with money in hand and then looked back to me. “Well, its just kids come here a lot and the way you’re eating your cupcake…Its kind of suggestive with all the noises and sucking your fingers. How about you tone it down a bit? Y’know, keep it PG.”

My cheeks heated up as I lowered my face shamefully. “Sorry about that.” I started to eat the rest of the cupcake, painfully conscious of how I was doing so, which kind of ruined the last bit.

“Don’t look like that!” Liam chuckled. “I’m not trying to be rude. I’m just saying don’t go all pornstar in public, leave it for our room.”

“That last part was rude.” I glared. “And that’s precious coming from the second-rate stripper who gave me an unexpected show.” I glanced away from him and darkly snickered.

“Hey! I’ve gotten better! I’ve been practicing.” Liam protested.

I raised an eyebrow skeptically. “Have you really though? Been practicing that is. I’m sure even if you have been, you haven’t improved much.”

Liam sat way back in his peach colored chair and folded his arms. “What do you think?”

I thought about it for a second then realized I wouldn’t put it against him to do something like that. I was about to tell him so when the young lady who was behind the cash register in the bakery approached us with a cupcake in her hands.

“Excuse me?” She said politely, interrupting our witty back and forth. She had short, frizzled, brown hair and was quite tall. She almost towered over Liam and me. She was dressed in a light pink dress and a light yellow frilly apron. She wasn’t the most beautiful girl, but she definitely wasn’t homely.

“Yes?” Liam said, giving her his charismatic smile.

“I have this thing where I make these special cupcakes…” She placed the cupcake down on the middle of the table, giving me a better look of it. It was pink at the bottom and had bright white, fluffy looking whipped cream on top. On top of that was a yellow cookie that was shaped like a heart. It looked good, but nowhere as good as the sea-salt caramel one. “…That I give out to cute couples I see that visit here and I thought I should give one to the two of you. I think its really adorable how you tease each other.”

“Couples?” Liam asked dumbfounded, while I began to choke on the last bit of my cupcake.

She think we’re a couple? Liam and I? And not only that but she think we’re cute? How the hell did she get that idea? I mean we haven’t did anything that could even possibly hint at that. Only thing we did since we entered the bakery was joke around. I thought about it for a second then wanted to facepalm myself. I realized why she could’ve thought we were thing. Between Liam rubbing my head, a habit he had suddenly picked up, and him staring at me while I “suggestively” ate my cupcake, I could now comprehend where she was coming from.
