Everybody Knows
Chapter 014
“Overworked… Fifteen Minutes Of Escape”
I sat there at my desk with my head resting on a bunch of important papers that were scattered across it. I listened to the sound of time literally ticking away. The sound of the second-hand on my wristwatch going around was all I could hear in my dorm. I questioned myself if the room had always been this quiet. Maybe it had been and it was my thoughts that gave me some noise to keep me company. Or probably it was the sound of me rustling through papers or me typing up some type of document.
I had arrived to my dorm about four hours ago after I left my last class for the day. Ever since then I’ve been working on some of the committee’s requests in fear of them piling up if I didn’t do so. Now I was taking a small break and was feeling miserable. Its most likely due to the fact I want to go to sleep, but know I should hold off on doing such. Once I did, I knew I would be out for the day. I couldn’t drift off just yet, there was still much to be done.
I stared at a point in the wall as I felt my body become heavy. If this kept up I knew I would be asleep any second now.
As I ever so slowly drifted off into the realm off sleep, he appeared in the line of my vision, off in my peripheral. He had that same agonizing stern look plastered on his face as he did whenever he would see me. I knew better then to try to look directly at him because as soon as I would try he would disperse from reality. He shook his head disappointingly, something I was used to him doing in my presence.
“What?” I groaned in annoyance. “I can’t even take a break? I’ve been doing my best, y’know. I was up all night studying for the four exams I had today. I just spent the last three hours going over the budget balances and I still have to add the new perimeters to the school’s system so it will integrate well with the new update I’m gonna create and install early next year. Is it so wrong I just want to relax for a few minutes?”
His lips moved yet no words came out of them. I could still decipher what he was saying though.
I frowned. “Of course it is…”
I was making myself depressed again. I decided to look directly at the man and he was gone just as quickly. I sighed in relief as I felt my eyelids become heavy. This isn’t good. Its going happen again if I don’t get up right now. I’m gonna black out.
Just as I’m on the brink of unconsciousness I hear a knock on the door that saves from my fate and I awake. I lethargically raise from my seat and stretch my limbs. There were more knocks.
“Here I come!” I called out as I scratched my stomach and made my way over to the door. Before I opened it, I examined the state of my room and sighed. It would be nice if I could greet somebody at the door and not have them peer at the eternal mess that was my room. Books were everywhere, papers scattered all about, and various laptops were placed carelessly in different spots. It probably would look even worse if I didn’t have the whole room to myself now.
I shook that matter from my head and opened the door. I was met with a pair of emerald eyes, playful curls, and a cherubic smile.
“Hey, Louis!” Harry brightly greeted before embracing me in one of his trademark hugs. “How are you enjoying this awesome Friday evening?”
His high energy level was already clashing with my barely existing one. “What’s so awesome about it?” I grumbled sluggishly as he let go of me and we both made our way inside the room.
“How about the fact its Friday?” I didn’t even bother to reply to him. As usual when I did such, Harry jumped to another topic. “You weren’t at lunch today neither. Were you busy doing work and stuff?”
