Day 11

I finally ran out of mac-n-cheese. Now I'm onto my other commodities, probably sandwiches and salad.

12:00 AM

A green rock passed by. I saw a little brown thing running around on it. I had to examine it. My trusty hose went out to catch it. I dragged in my new package. It had a field mouse on it. I caught it. A warm-blooded creature, something that moved of it's own volition, something real. Two companions. His name was to be Fern, short for Fernando Guadalupe. I had a cage, when we had a hamster, before the dog of course. I placed him in his new cage, next to Dave T. Fern had a comfortable living space, food, water and luxury. No one to talk to though. He seemed content with his life as of now. He was alone except for the giant creature he could only know as a god, when really it was only, a lonely man named Bernard.

1:00 PM

I had hatched a plan. First send off my trash, as was priority. I didn't want to plod around in my own filth. It had also reminded me that I hadn't taken a shower since the end of the world. I could feel my body getting dirty. I took a shower after I disposed of the trash. Another delivery to some remote corner of the galaxy. Maybe even the same place. The hot water on my body was a relief after all of the cold. After my shower I wrote down my plan, maybe as something to do on a "rainy day". Like you could have rain in space.

9:00 PM

It's Fern's first night in a warm place it seems. He had been drifting for 10 days with only some small amount of food to sustain him. I fall asleep feeling good that I saved something from total devoid darkness.

Day 12

Dave T has been silent a lot recently. Not speaking at all, not even psychically, if you could call it that. I don't know if I offended him or something but I miss his words, or lack thereof.

8:00 AM

Dave T spoke again, well silently. He was projecting when he didn't speak. He projected his spirit out into the void to see what he could find. He saw a red planet, not Mars, but another.

2:00 PM

We passed the red planet. I called it Amanda, after the memory of my wife. I marked it down on a sheet of paper. A small chunk of Amanda was near us, right out on the front porch. I took it an brought it in, something to remember my wife by and a souvenir of my travels near Amanda. A single tear slid down my cheek as the memories flooded back.
