Chapter 16

"It's happening tonight". The seer looked into the vast forest. "Good luck to the both of you." She smiled as if Kendrick and Allen could see her. She was excited with how Allen is getting affected by Kendrick. Albeit the future is unclear, she is certain that the greater good shall prevail.

"And the timing has never been this perfect." She clasped her hands in excitement.

There's something peculiar about today. It feels so hot all over and I'm sweating like crazy that the sight of an open freezer entices me to get close to it. It started this morning when Kendrick and I went together to the diner. Yes, we've been going together to the diner every day since he insisted on calling us mates. And that was always his ground for convincing me to ride with him every day.

I'm not complaining about it because, the ride is free. And his early morning musk is a plus. I don't know why I am so addicted with his scent. And today is different. He smells so good that it's making me want to stick my nose in every nook and cranny of his body and getting me to a point of asking myself about my sanity.

"Allen." Jenny called out to me.

I looked at her and gave her a questioning look. "Yes?"

"Honey. You might consider closing that fridge. Our electricity bill is too huge already." She said with a twitched left brow.

Then I realized I was standing in the refrigerator while holding it open. "Oh." I muttered and closed the door slowly, feeling sad of losing my personal air conditioning. Yet I saw Jenny walking away to entertain a customer and that was an opportunity, so I opened the refrigerator's door once again.

"Feeling hot?" a voice came behind me that startled me. I knew it was Kendrick so I slowly turned to face him. What I wasn't expecting was to see him half naked with sweat dripping all over his body.

I swallowed at the sight of his body. I looked up at him and muttered a small "Y-yeah."

"Me too." He said and held the refrigerator's door with me and he opened it wider.

Then at the corner of my eye, I saw Jenny walking towards our direction. "Crap." I mumbled and was about to close the refrigerator but I can't because Kendrick's large hand was on top of mine.

"Allen, I told you to close the- oh." Jenny was about to start her litany but stopped when she saw who's with me.

Kendrick waved at her. And that made her fan herself using her hand. "I understand now why you feel hot Allen." Jenny said and started walking away. But she turned once again and said. "But really, the weather is freezing." She said and tightened her scarf around her neck.

I scanned the room and saw behind the counter that all our customers were indeed wearing sweaters. Then I realized that only Kendrick and I are sweating. But he's got the reason because he's been doing heavy work.

He looked at Allen in front of him. He knew that it's the call of the moon that's affecting them. The effect is not yet full because it's still midday. But he's aware that when the night strikes, the heat will be unbearable. And he knew exactly where to take Allen to alleviate it.

But he's worrying that he might not be able to contain himself if he's with Allen. The sight of his mate right now is actually gnawing inside him to take Allen in his arms and mark him. But he knew he needs to be strong. He just pushed the thoughts of marking Allen at the back of his mind. He'll cross the bridge when he gets there.

"I'm sorry, but the diner is closing early today." I heard Jenny spoke to the customers who just arrived. I snatched a view and saw the disappointed look on their faces. "Come visit us again tomorrow. We'll resume our regular service time by then." Jenny added.
