As I walked into my room that night, I headed straight for the bathroom door, only to find it locked from the inside. With a sigh, I walked back out to the hallway and into Rose's room. She was still downstairs with Dad, so there was no one to scream at me for intruding. I headed straight into the bathroom and walked across to unlock the door opposite, which led into my room, but kept it closed as I looked at myself in the mirror. I took off the fedora I had borrowed from Dad's room and ran my fingers through my hair. Just as I did, my phone vibrated in my pocket.

I pulled it out, tapped in my password, and smirked slightly as I found a message from Ruby. I opened it and, like always with this girl, my heart fluttered.

            Hey baby. Miss u already.

I bit my lip and quickly typed back a reply, leaning against the wall by the door as I did so.

Miss u 2 angel. Maybe u should come over 2morrow.

I slid my phone back into my pocket and turned towards the door, but something stopped me. There was a small glint of light shining off of something in the garbage. Normally, I would pay it no mind, but for some reason, it caught my attention. I bent down to see what it was, and at first, I didn't quite register what it was. Instead, I noticed something distinctly red; Blood. I reached in carefully and pulled the object from the garbage. When I held it up in front of my face, I realized that it was a razor blade.

I quickly stood up, ignoring the buzzing of my phone in my back pocket, and looked towards the sink closest to Rose's bedroom door. It was clean, for the most part, not a speck of blood anywhere. But, she had made one mistake. There was a wrapper from a gauze pad still lying on the edge of the counter. I grabbed it and threw it in the garbage, then walked into my room, with the bloody razor still in my hand, and kicked the door shut.

I knew this was happening. I knew it. Well, I had suspected it at least, for a while now. Every time I tried to tell Mom about it, I clammed up like I was afraid to tell her. I didn't want her and Dad to come down too hard on Rose, was actually the issue. I knew if I told them, they would both lose their minds and probably yell at her. So, I kept it to myself. But now...now that I have proof that she's hurting herself, I can't just keep it to myself.

I suddenly heard Rose's bedroom door close, and my heart thundered. Should I approach her about it? If something was seriously bothering her, shouldn't I talk to her? She's my baby sister; I can't just let her suffer in silence. I got up and headed through the bathroom to knock on her door. She opened it slowly, with a curious look on her face. She was pale. I mean, she was always pale, like Dad, but she looked strangely so at the moment. "What's up?" She asked, cocking an eyebrow at me.

"Uh..." I sighed, fingering the blade behind my back. "I, um...I want to talk to you about something."

Rose stared at me like I was insane, then pushed her door fully open and walked away from me to sit on her bed. I walked in, glancing up at the poster of Fall Out Boy that hung over her bed. It was an old poster, from back when Dad still had his sideburns and Uncle Pete still flat ironed his hair. I nervously looked away from it, as if Dad could already see what I was hiding from them. I went to sit beside Rose, and decided that I should just be blunt and get right to the point. No point in beating around the bush. I held the little razor blade out in front of me, looking sideways at Rose as I heard her breath catch in her throat. "What's going on?" I asked, nervously turning my gaze down to her arms. She was in a t-shirt, but her forearms were covered with band bracelets. I noticed that a good handful of them were Fall Out Boy.
