School made for a long day that just didn't seem like it was going t end. Ruby stuck close to me all day, as usual, but she was very attentive after learning of what was going on with Rose. By the time ninth period rolled around, Ruby was sitting in the desk directly next to mine, having shoved it closer to mine before she sat down so she could hold my had beneath the desks. I was rubbing my thumb rhythmically against the back of her hand, but my leg was bouncing p and down incessantly, in a fit of nervous anticipation.
I had already text Dad and Uncle Joe to let them know that we were going to Uncle Pete's after school, even though neither of us had even bothered to ask Uncle Pete's permission. I had also text Rose to offer her a ride home after school, but she had denied the offer by saying that she already had a ride. I assumed it was either Mom or Dad, and I hoped they didn't try to question her too much.
When the final bell rang, Ruby and I nearly sprinted for our lockers. Hers was just down the hall from mine, so we split up to gather our things, and then I met her at her locker just as she was pulling a hooded sweatshirt on. I grabbed her hand and kissed her briefly on the cheek, asking if she was ready to go and then we made for the parking lot. I helped her into the car and just as I was about to pull out of the parking space, I spotted Saint heading for his bus. I figured I might as well give him a ride, since I was going to his house, and rolled down my window. "Wentz!" I screamed, hanging halfway out my window. He looked up, startled by my scream, and looked at me in confusion. "Get in the car!"
He stared for a moment longer, then shrugged and began walking over to us. I started the car the second he got in the back seat, and he leaned over to smile at us. "Where are we going, Stump?" He asked, then glanced at Ruby with a smile. "What's up, Trohman?" She rolled her eyes at him and took out her phone, leaning back in her seat, while I pulled out of the parking lot.
"We're going to your house," I told him, sighing. Saint groaned and threw himself back in his seat, crossing his arms.
"Aw, come on, Dec! I thought we were going to do something interesting."
"We are doing something interesting," I replied, frowning, "It's about Rose."
Almost immediately, he said up a little straighter. "Why? What's wrong now?" I hesitated a moment before answering, and Ruby silently reached over to put her hand on my knee. I took one hand off the wheel to lace our fingers together, and Saint sighed. "Shit, it's bad, isn't it?"
"She's been...you know, cutting and shit," I finally told him. I squeezed Ruby's hand and she squeezed back. "I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself really bad."
"Fuck," Saint groaned, "You're going to talk to my dad, right?"
"Yeah," I sighed. "I figured, if anyone can help...."
I trailed off, but he knew what I meant. We'd all heard stories growing up and seen things online about Uncle Pete's younger years. It was hard not to learn these things about your parents and whatnot when they were all famous.
We arrived at the Wentz's house in a matter of minutes, mostly due to the fact that I had been speeding most of the way here. I helped Ruby out of the car and locked it as Saint hopped out of the back seat, and he walked ahead of us to let us into the house. "Mom!" He shouted as he closed the front door behind us, "Declan and Ruby are here!"
"Hi, guys!" Aunt Meagan shouted from somewhere in the house. We both shouted a greeting back to her, and followed Saint into the living room, where she joined us a moment later. "Well, isn't this a surprise," she laughed, "Pete just left to pick up your sister, Dec."
