"Come on, we're going to be late!" Layla called as she fixed her earrings. "Ash, just go with the light purple!"

"Are you sure? What about the green?" Ash appeared with two shirts in his hands.

Layla sighed and went over to her brother. Grabbing his wrists, she moved each shirt in front of him. Definitely not green, since it clashed with his hair. "Purple. Green shirt and blue hair is not at all attractive."

"But-"

"I swear to God, put on the shirt or I'm leaving without you."

"Okay, okay!" Ash pulled the shirt on and tossed the other one back into his room. Layla started to think of a painting she was working on and was so focused that when her brother asked if she was coming or if she was too nervous, she jumped.

"I don't get nervous, Ashy. You get nervous. That's why you took so long to pick something to wear." Layla tucked a strand of vibrant blue hair behind her ear, smoothed a wrinkle in her gray dress, and set out with her brother into the cool London night.

The two had decided to walk to the restaurant they were meeting Ash's friends at, one reason being that Ash lived alone with no car until his sister moved in. He still didn't have a car, but he wasn't alone anymore.

Pi was waiting outside for them, and Ash's chest began to glow very faintly. Layla's lips turned down in a slight frown and did her best to ignore it. She knew that the normal soulmate glow was a lot stronger, but their relationship was not her problem. Another pair was waiting with him, both with their chests glowing steadily.

"Bonjour, Zhatchers. Matzhew should be here in zhe next few minutes or so," Pi greeted. The siblings nodded and stood awkwardly beside the other couple. As promised, a young man with short brown hair began to approach them. He greeted Pi, Ash, and the couple by name, then turned to Layla and smiled. He offered a hand.

"Hi, I'm Matthew Helms. Layla Thatcher, I presume?"

Layla nodded politely and reached for his hand.

Their fingertips had barely touched when their chests began to glow strongly. Both retracted their hands in surprise. They took a moment to process what had just occurred, and then grinned.

"Yeah, I'm Layla. Great to meet you, Matthew."

"The pleasure is all mine."
