On August twenty-sixth, Ash was woken by Taylor Swift. Grumpily, he reached for the phone, which was telling him that he could've been getting down to this sick beat instead of getting down and out with all the liars and dirty dirty cheats in the world.

"Annie, why're you up so early?" he groaned, glancing at his alarm clock. The bright green numbers read five in the morning.

"Five hour time difference, hun. I haven't gone to bed yet. Happy birthday!"

"Huh?"

"Ash, sweetie, it's your birthday. August twenty-sixth. I know it by heart."

"Oh, yeah." Ash nodded and blinked wearily. He sat up in bed and pulled the cord on his lamp. The room lit up, causing Ash to squint until his eyes adjusted.

"What's it say?"

"What's what say?"

"Ash, darlin', remind me to stop calling the second your birthday comes around, else I'll never get coherent answers out of you! What does your tattoo say? The one everyone gets on their eighteenth? The one that tells you exactly what your soulmate will say to you first? Like how on my arm, it says, 'Hand me a ranch cup, please. I like it on my pizza. Don't judge, farm girl'?"

Ash's bright blue eyes widened, and he almost dropped the phone when he realized. He ran his hand quickly through his bright blue hair (the same color as his eyes), then looked eagerly to his arm.

"It says 'Ash, would you care to join me for lunch?'" He paused and furrowed his brow. "I think this person has an accent. 'Zhere's a nice café down zhe street.' French, maybe?"

"Omigosh, that'd be so romantic! He could compliment you in the language of love!"

"...Right." Ash yawned. "Annie, can I go back to sleep now? I have this important paper in Creative Writing that I don't even know the topic for yet..."

Annie wasn't even listening as she continued to babble on about who his soulmate could be. With a small sigh, Ash pressed the hang up button and set his phone on the bedside table. He turned the lamp off, laid down, and closed his eyes. He was slightly nervous, but he didn't think he'd meet this guy anytime soon. His only plans for that day were to buy a plane ticket to Japan (which probably had very few French guys, being halfway across the world) so he could meet Annie's Japanese friends that next month and to go to school (where he had no French classmates).

Ash fell asleep with his arm pulled close to his chest. Meanwhile, Annie was still talking about how cute they'd be together to the phone, even though no one was there to listen.
