Jack flicked the timer on his wrist in annoyance. This was the third time it had frozen today. It wasn't supposed to do that. Trying to convince himself that it was nothing but the time change affecting the plastic strip attached to him, Jack summoned up enough courage to open the door to his new class. He imagined that somewhere, halfway across the world in Galway, Ireland, his twin brother, Caleb, was doing the same.
Students were already seated across the classroom, and Jack was suddenly met with many pairs of eyes on him. Stepping further into the classroom, he located an empty desk and sat in it quickly, ignoring the strange looks he was getting. It was as though the students had never seen an American before. Well, Jack didn't expect much more from Japanese middle schoolers.
Jack looked down at his wrist again, groaned softly, and began flicking his frozen timer again.
Little did he know that in the classroom next door, a small girl with short blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a frozen timer on her wrist was doing the exact same thing.
