Ariel's warm breath fell on Lucifer's neck. He was tired, and more hungry than he had ever been in his entire existance, but he couldn't just leave Ariel. He was an awful person sometimes, and people always assume he'll kill everyone, but he punished the bad, not the good. What did he do to derserve that kind of treatment?
Ariel wasn't afraid of him. She didn't try to kill him, or exorcise him. She was nice to something that everyone taught her was awful. Perhaps she didn't trust him, but she was still in his arms, totally defenseless.
She lay there, listening to The Devil's heartbeat. It was constant, calm, and comforting. It lulled her to sleep nicely. She only woke when he shifted in the bed, which caused her to glare at him and move away, only to be pulled back in once he stopped.
A few hours later, Lucifer opened his eyes, yawning loudly and stretching out to all four corners of the bed. Ariel was up and around, moving boxes and papers.
"I am not very familiar with human diseases, but I think you should be resting if you're sick." Lucifer whispered as he came up behind her.
"Well, I have soup." She lifted the cup she was holding. It was filled with a liquid that eerily resembled blood.
"Um, is that?"
"It's tomato soup, you kinky bastard."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand."
"Oh shut up." Ariel laughed, followed by a rough cough.
Ariel set her cup down on the dresser and grabbed a tank-top and a pair of pajama pants. She point at Lucifer and said, "Stay."
She disappeared into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. He heard the shower start up and sat on the bed, going through her photos that were on the dresser.
A few minutes later, Lucifer got up and opened the door a bit. She was still in the shower, but the bathroom was enveloped in steam. Lucifer breathed it in, stepping quietly into the small room and taking a seat in the corner. Ariel was singing some song quietly.
The shower drizzled to a stop and Ariel peeked out to grab her towel.
"Why are you in here?" She said, rather surprised.
"Heat." Lucifer mumbled, half asleep.
"Alrighty, then." She wrapped the towel around herself and stepped out of the shower.
When Lucifer opened his eyes again, the room was cold and dark. He took a deep breath but, for some reason, he choked up. He suddenly had a bit of trouble breathing. He gasped quietly, unable to move very much at all.
The lights beamed on and Ariel stood in the doorway.
"You're awake."
Lucifer closed his eyes and took another deep breath. He could breathe again.
"Yeah."
"Come on. You should probably get going." Ariel grabbed his arm and helped him to his feet.
"Yeah."
"Is that all you can say?" Ariel looked at him. He looked normal, but something was weird. "Did... Did you catch my cold?"
"No. That's impossible. I can't catch human illnesses."
"Then what's wrong?"
"I don't know."
Ariel put her hand to his forehead. "Well, you feel just like everyone else to me.
"Yeah, that's.... Not.... Good."
