The next morning I heard a "pitter patter" noise on the roof and I looked outside to see that it was raining. I checked my phone expecting to see a text from Jc, but there wasn't one. I was a little discouraged but I brushed it off and figured maybe he's still sleeping. I got out of bed and stretched my legs. I found myself thinking about all my friends back home, especially Shelby. So I stood up, wrapped a blanket around me and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
"Goodmorning mom. Where's dad & Tommy?" I asked in a sleepy voice.
"They went out fishing for the day." Mom said with her usual cheery voice.
"Off the pier?" I asked.
"No, they went out to find a creek. I think they wanted to feel like they would have if we were still back home." She replied.
I went to got get a glass of orange juice and thought about going to the creek and fishing with her friends and catching crawfish. Once again she felt herself particularly missing Shelby. So she took her orange juice up to her room and started FaceTimeing Shelby. Shelby picked up after a few seconds and said.
"Why haven't you called me sooner! You've been gone almost 3 weeks!"
"I haven't found the time, with unpacking and meeting new people and all." I replied.
"New people? What new people? You better not be replacing me." Shelby said with a smile.
This is the Shelby I knew and loved. I thought with a smile.
"No! I would never do that!" I said with a small laugh.
I began to tell her everything. From the day I moved when Alex came over, right up to my date with Jc the night before. She was so excited for me that I felt like my speakers in my phone we're going to break from how much she kept talking. I missed this. I missed talking to her for hours about our lives and all the bits and pieces involved in them.
"How long have we been on here?" I asked.
"About 3 hours." She said.
"Holy shit! I better go, you know how mom is if I'm up in my room for long periods of time." I told her.
"Okay" her face got sad. "I miss you, text me later."
"I miss you too and I will. I love you hun." I said.
"I love you too." She replied.
And with that we ended the call. I missed her immediately. It felt nice talking to my bestfriend for awhile. I felt like I was back home and nothing had changed, but of coarse it was only a feeling. When I ended the call I realized I was hundreds of miles away from home and nothing was going to change that. Minutes later my phone buzzed. I thought it was going to be Shelby, but it was actually Jc.
Jc😍: Are you busy tonight?
Cassie💋: No. Why?
Jc😍: I wanted to do something tonight. 😚
Cassie💋: But it's raining.
Jc😍: Who said we have to go out?
Cassie💋: Then what are we gonna do?
Jc😍: Wanna have a movie marathon? 😚😌
Cassie💋: Sure, come over around 6?
Jc😍: See you then cutie💜
It's 5 right now. I grabbed my phone and speaker and went to take a shower. After I got out I just threw my hair up in a messy bun and threw on some sweatpants and one of my high school class t-shirts from back home. I didn't bother with a lot of makeup, I just put on some light cover up and mascara. When I finished getting ready it was 5:50 so I went downstairs to wait for Jc. I'd rather not mom answer the door when he arrived. Just as I reached the bottom of the stairs I heard the door bell ring. I opened the door and there he was holding a box of pizza and wings in his arms and a drawstring bag on his back.
"You look so beautiful" Jc said with a cute little smile.
"Thank you" I said as I blushed.
I let him in and closed the door behind him. We started walking towards the basement door when mom caught us.
"I didn't know Jc was coming over" mom said.
"I didn't know until like an hour ago mom. We are just gonna watch movies downstairs for awhile." I said.
"Okay, let me know if you need anything" mom said with a smile.
We walked down the stairs into my cozy finished basement.
"So, what did you bring?" I asked.
"I got Ted, Ted 2, We're The Millers, Grown Ups, and Step Brothers" he said. "I like comedies" he added with a smile.
"Awesome! I do too and I love all those movies. I replied returning the smile.
We started with Ted and Jc grabbed a bunch of pillows and blankets and we sat down on the couch together. I felt his warm inviting body next to mine so I couldn't help but move into him. Before I knew it we were cuddled up to each other and laughing our asses off at the movie. I looked at him with a warm smile on my face and he looked down at me. Our eyes both looked back and forth from each other's mouths to our eyes and we leaned in and kissed each other. It was even better than the last time.
