Rob's Perspective

"Mitch... Are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, I'm a fan of any type of freak show, but are we seriously going to attend one with tickets given to us by some druggie that just walked up to our car."
Lachlan was laying on his back, Mitch resting his head on his chest. Lachlan was throwing his sweatshirt up into the hair, the garment folded like a ball.

The jumper made one final toss before landing on Mitch's face. Lachlan laughed,
"I think it's a good idea. I mean, it's our senior year and the most exciting thing I've done is kiss a girl."

Mitch rolled his eyes, throwing the jacket back into Lachlan's face.
"And what? You think you're gonna get lucky with some hardcore freak girl at this show."

Lachlan shrugged, pushing Mitch from off top of him.
"Lemme guess..."
The Canadian continued.

"Red hair, some tattoos maybe, blue eyes, long legs and small shorts."

Lachlan smirked, leaning his head back.
"Try black hair, brown eyes almost the same color."
I groaned, leaving those two to bicker out the most attractive qualities of whoever they dreamed.

The tickets were laying down on the kitchen counter, I picked one of them up, reading the info on the back.

"Hey guys!"

Behind me I heard the two come running, Lachy eyed the tickets.
"The show isn't even far from here. We could go and be back before midnight."

"Are we actually doing this?"
"Should we?"

I handed Mitch the tickets, grabbing my car keys.
"Why not... We've got nothing else going on tonite."
---

I drove quietly over the back road, the tires crunching the gravel under us. Tree branches scraped against the roof of the car, causing shivers to run down my spine.

"Come on Rob-a-dob-flob. Live a little. Senior year remember?"
Lachlan nudged my shoulder, his blue eyes also showing slight fear.

Mitch nudged his shoulder.
"Don't be such a white person. As long as we don't split up or do any other stupid-ass stuff. We should live."

"You've got to be kidding me Mitch."

"Hey, I've been watching horror movie since I was a child. It's simple logic."

I shifted gears, pressing my foot on the gas while attempting to turn the wheel. My car made a strange sputtering sound, the back two tires spinning out.

"No, no, no, no~"
I pressed harder on the glass, mud kicked up onto the back window.
"Not now are you kidding me."

I banged my hands down onto the steering wheel.
"Umm... Rob."

I glanced over at Lachlan, his face a shade paler.
"A-are we stu-stuck?"

"I'm afraid so..."
Mitch groaned in the back seat, falling onto his back.

"So what are we going to do now?"
Lachlan opened the passenger door, making his way over to the back of the car to check the tires.

I joined him, the right tire stuck in a few inches of mud. The left wasn't bad, leaving the car tilted at an angle.
I saw Mitch get out of the car, sticking his hands in his pockets as he walked away from us.
I ran up behind him, grabbing his shoulder and spinning him to face me.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"Where the hell do you think? I'm going to the show."

He pulled away from me roughly, continuing his walk.
"Wait, we're maybe fifteen miles away. Let's just walk home and get help. Who knows how far we have to go to this place?"

Lachlan ran up behind me, taking one small glance back at the car before following Mitch.
"Sorry Rob, but what if the show is just right here. We would've come so far, just to turn around. I hate to break it to you buddy, but I'm with Mitch on this one."
---

I glanced at my phone, we had been walking for almost an hour and yet our surroundings hadn't changed a bit. God I hoped we weren't lost.
"Guys... We've been out here for an hour. Where even is this stupid freak show?"

A branch ahead of us on the trail cracked. All three of us immediately looking towards the sound. Mitch began to laugh,
"Thank god. It's probably just a squirrel. I can't believe you guys are getting so jumpy about this."

Behind Mitch, a bit of wind picked up a small group of leaves. They spun like a tornado, the spiral of foliage growing bigger as it approached us. Without realizing, it was upon us, the wind engulfing our bodies. I fell from the pressure, collapsing on top of Lachlan. Mitch had fallen on me, a quiet oomf slipping from my lips.

"Hmm... What new meat do we have here?"
I looked up, another boy standing above me with arms crossed. He had seemed to appear from out of nowhere, the leaf tornado now gone.

He had dark skin, black hair seemingly still perfect after his wind tunnel of a prank. His eyes were a bright red -a piercing blood red- framed by thick eyebrows.
His shirt was a dark red button up, the sleeves rolled to his elbows. A few of the buttons had come undone, revealing some of his collar.

I saw him bend down, resting a slender finger under Lachlan's chin. He held the Aussie's face close to his. I saw Lachlan's cheeks go pink, his eyes wide as the boy in front of us smiled. I saw one long fang poke out from between his lips.

"Y-you-you're a va-vampire."
"Right you are sweetheart... Now, what were you three saying about a freak show?"

I saw Lachlan's blush deepen as Mitch pushed me from off of his chest. Lachlan was helped up by the vampire, gripping his hand tightly.

"Yeah, sorry for asking, but I couldn't help but hear your accent."

"Oh yeah, I'm from Sheffield, England myself.  Joined the Cirque when I was just a kid. They made a few stops there back in the day. People used to devour freaks then. Some still do in fact."

"Actually, you're from the Cirque? We got these tickets from this kid. Like curly hair, glasses. He just handed them to us..."

"Oh, that's Brandon. I wouldn't worry about him, he's mostly harmless. Although, I will have to get after him for not giving you gents proper directions..."

This time, the boy's red eyes flicked up and down Lachlan, biting his lip slightly with his pointy canine teeth.

"Especially to the attractive ones. Anyway boys. Just follow me."

Lachlan was pulled up near the vampire, Mitch and I falling back, allowing the two some privacy.

"Rob, I don't trust this guy..."
I glanced at the couple, hearing small bits and pieces of their animated conversation. I could tell Lachy was on cloud nine.

"Well, it seems Lachlan trusts him pretty well."
Mitch snorted,
"Watch out Robbie, the scary vamp may send out friend down under. Six feet down under."

Rob groaned, shaking his head while we caught up.
"Well boys... Welcome to the Cirque!"
