The second I arrived in the door of my apartment, I collapsed onto the crappy couch in the middle of the living room. Work had kicked my ass and I was so looking forward to taking a warm shower and climbing into bed with a book.

However, life had other plans.

I had barely untied my work apron when the phone rang, and I groaned, knowing exactly who it was-

Sylvie.

She lived in the apartment a few doors down and was two years younger than me. We had become friends about six months ago, when she appeared at my door, asking how to work a coffee pot.
Since then, I had learned that she'd been a spoiled rich girl until a month or so after her 23rd birthday when her father cut her off, and she was quickly learning what it was like to live on her own.

I also learned that, with her long blonde hair, super tiny waist and confident smirk, she was a total guy magnet and loved a good party. Meanwhile I was a little more reserved and enjoyed staying at home to read more than going out to party. However, despite the fact that she and I didn't share many interests, it was nice to have somebody to talk to. Somebody who didn't know about my past and never asked about it.

So, I stuck around and sometimes went out with her after work.

"Hello?" I asked, picking up the landline connected to the wall in the kitchen.

"Hazel! Thank God you're home, I couldn't get ahold of any of my friends and I wanna go out tonight!"

"So I'm a second option?" I joked, taking my hair out of its ponytail and running a hand through it.

"Of course not, don't be ridiculous," she laughed, "but as I was saying, it's Friday, I wanna go out and get some drinks. Celebrate the weekend, you know?"

"Oh yeah? Where?"

She thought for a moment.

"How about that bar by your work?"

I frowned, unable to remember any bar that was near my job.

"Which one?" I asked, examining my crappy nail beds. "You know the one. It's by a little hotel!" Sylvie attempted to explain.

"You mean the Green Light Tavern?" I asked, wrinkling my nose in disgust. A couple of drunks from the tavern often stumbled into the Gypsy and tried to hit on me and a couple of the other girls at work, reeking of gin and whiskey.
The Green Light was not a place for two girls in their mid-twenties.

"Yes! That one! It looks kinda cute, don't you think?" Sylvie exclaimed.

"Yeah, adorable," I replied flatly.

"Great, so you'll go?" She asked excitedly, and I could tell she was hopping up and down.

"I'll stay for one drink." I informed her, still picking at my cuticles.

"Okay! I'll be at your door in twenty!"

"Sylvie, I need more time tha-" But she had already hung up.

Sighing, I hung up the landline and retreated to my minuscule bathroom to fix my hair.

"Come on Sammy, lighten up!" Dean cried, clapping his brother on the shoulder, "you've been in some kinda funk ever since we left that coffee shop."
Sam, who was nursing a shot of fireball didn't so much as look up from the amber colored liquid. "Dean, what if I never see her again?"Sam asked quietly, his voice laced with concern. Dean, who was already on his second beer, frowned. "Well, Sammy, the good news is, you got to see her. She's alive, and you don't have to worry about her anymore."

Sam was silent for a moment. When he finally opened his mouth to speak, Dean quickly interrupted him.

"You know Sammy, I think you might get to see her a little sooner than you originally planned."

Sam quickly whipped around, following Dean's gaze to the two girls that had just stepped inside the bar.

And just like that, his shot glass hit the floor.

Hi my dearest readers! I'm so sorry it took me so long to update, (I've been crazy busy!) but I can't tell you how amazing it was to come back and see that so many people have commented and added Parallel to their reading lists and even voted for it! Thank you all so much!

ALSO! I recently decided that though I love writing about my little Sammy, the insanely gorgeous Dean deserves some love as well. so I started writing a Dean Winchester AU fic, and the first chapter will hopefully be up soon!

Thank you all so much for reading!

Love always,

-Lex
