Though he had initially been scared shitless to talk to Hazel, Sam found it had been quite easy and more enjoyable than he'd thought. She was completely open- like a book. Their conversations ranged from childhood stories and growing up with siblings, among an array of other topics, and with each sentence, Sam found himself more and more intrigued by the second.
"I can't believe you toured with Halo Holders," he exclaimed incredulously, shaking his head in utter disbelief. "Well, technically I only went to five shows out of the twenty," Hazel giggled.
"Yeah, but still! The Halo Holders. You shared a bus with Drew Zander and Alex Jones. Breathed the same air, watched their shows from backstage- Unbelievable. Is there anything you haven't done?" Sam asked, unable to rid himself of the grin that had settled on his features.
"There's plenty I haven't done, honestly," Hazel admitted.
"Like what?" Sam leaned forward on his elbows.
Hazel bit her lip, deep in thought. "See New York City at night. Take photos at the beach, adopt a dog. You know, typical things." She shrugged. Sam nodded. He knew what it felt like to wish for normal things. Things people often took for granted.
And it was at that moment he wondered what made a seemingly regular girl like Hazel unable to experience those things.
But he didn't ask.
"What about you, Sam?" She asked gently, swaying the conversation away from herself.
Sam smiled like a dope at the way she said his name. The way it rolled off her tongue so naturally. The way her lips curled into a smile around the word.
"Things I haven't done but want to?" Sam asked, looking into her eyes, "probably go back and finish college. Get a degree in law. Buy a nice house, somewhere coastal. Adopt a few dogs." He said, his gaze never leaving hers.
She smiled, "how many dogs is a few?""I'm thinking eight," he joked, "just because I love dogs." "I love them too," Hazel laughed, "but eight of them?" "Well yeah, of all different breeds."
"I like your thinking, Sam Winchester," She grinned.
The conversation continued on, ranging from what type of dogs they liked to how they preferred their coffee in the mornings. Hazel's smile never faltered, and neither did Sam's.
And with every word, Sam fell more and more.

"Well, it's late, and I should probably go find Sylvie before she gets into a car with the wrong guy," Hazel murmured as she stood up later that same evening. "it was great meeting you, Sam," She added softly, a smile playing on her lips. "It was nice to meet you too Hazel." Sam replied, his heart sinking knowing that the night was over. He stood up as she did, and she hugged him. It was gentle and somewhat hesitant. And Sam wasn't exactly a holy man, but the way her arms wrapped around him felt like heaven. "I'll see you around." She murmured, pulling away. Sam nodded, though he knew he wouldn't. With a smile, Hazel left and Sam watched her go. Once he was sure she was gone, he sank back into the seat, his mind in a daze.
It didn't stay that way for long.
Suddenly, the door opened and someone ran inside. Before Sam knew what was happening, Hazel, dripping wet and soaked from the rain was standing inside in front of him.
When they met eyes, she smiled. " I'm sorry to come back like this, I just.. I really enjoyed tonight with you, Sam. And I don't get many opportunities like this. I'd love to spend more time with you."
A wide grin spread across Sam's face once more.
"Yeah, Hazel, I'd love that too."
And she had no idea how much he really meant it.
