I was sitting at lunch looking at what they tried to pass as food at school. I poked at it with my fork and frowned.
"Would you stop playing with it and just eat it," my best friend Nathan said. I rolled my eyes at him. He could literally eat anything.
"It's just so disgusting," I said pouting. He laughed a bit before taking a bite of his questionable lunch.
"Then why did you get it?" He asked me after swallowing.
"Well it looked better than the rest of the stuff up there," I told him. He rolled his eyes at me again. Speaking of disgusting things his girlfriend Jessica walked up. Now I know that sounds terrible, but she was a mean person. She hated me for no reason so therefore I didn't care for her either.
"Hey babe," she said giving him a kiss on the cheek. I tried not to gag at the act. I was happy for Nathan and all for finding a girl he really liked, but why did it have to be her? She was a cheerleader. She was the head cheerleader and she let it all go to her head. She thought she was so popular. I mean I guess she kind of was, but that didn't give her a right to be so rude. Nichole and Brandon finally joined us. Nichole was my other best friend. She and Brandon weren't dating, but they should be. It was pretty obvious they liked each other. It kind of made me feel left out, with Jessica and Nathan all over each other and Brandon and Nichole being all flirty.
"Hey guys," I said smiling at them.
"Hey," they said at the same time.
"So are you guys coming to the game Friday?" Jessica asked us flipping her hair. I tried not to roll my eyes. She didn't actually care about the game. She just wanted us to see her cheer.
"Of course," Nathan said smiling at her. Nathan and I never used to go to games. We were never into them. I only ever went to the basketball games, and that's only because Nathan was on the team.
"I'm always there," Brandon replied and Nichole smiled.
"Yeah I'll be there too," she said. They were all looking at me, waiting for me to answer.
"Football games aren't really my thing, so I probably won't be going," I said taking a sip of my water.
"Come on," Nichole said, "It will be fun. Plus you can stare at your boyfriend's ass. Their pants are pretty tight you know," she winked at me. I could feel myself blushing.
"Okay well he's not my boyfriend and I'm still not going," I said. Nichole and Brandon were the only ones who knew about my crush on Liam. He was the school's quarterback and Mr. Popular. So cliché right? I have a crush on the popular jock that will never notice me.
"Wait who are we talking about?" Nathan asked. I felt kind of bad because I usually tell Nathan everything. He's just always with Jessica these days, so I don't really get to.
"Mae has a crush on Liam Decker," Nichole said with a big smile.
"Nichole" I said incredulously.
"What? We're all friends here," she said shrugging. I wanted to say that Jessica was most definitely not my friend.
"You have a crush on Liam?" Jessica asked me.
"Yeah, it's just a small crush. It's not a big deal," I replied.
"Well you should definitely come then, because he will be there," Nathan said smirking. I rolled my eyes. My friends were so annoying.
"I'd be careful if I were you. Liam is popular. He's one of those popular people that only like other popular people. I wouldn't fall too hard," Jessica told me. I sighed and just went back to picking at my lunch. Jessica could be telling the truth. I mean there were popular people like that. She could also just be telling me that because she was that way. Jessica really only liked popular people. I wasn't popular so she could have just been telling me that so I wouldn't like Liam. She probably thinks I'm not worthy of him or something.
I spent the rest of lunch feeling alone. Nichole and Brandon didn't seem to have a problem with Jessica. They didn't see through her fake exterior like I did. I never bothered pointing it out because it would probably start stupid arguments. Nathan was kind of popular. He was good at basketball and he was a nice guy. That's why Jessica liked him, because he could win us games. The bell finally rang signaling lunch was over and I was actually kind of happy.
I sighed and walked to my locker. School was so tiring we deserved a nap time or something. The school would never go for that though which I found completely unfair. I reached my locker and opened it up.
"Hey Maella," a voice behind me said making me jump. I turned around to see Jackson Turner standing there smirking. Ugh I hated him. Okay, well I didn't actually hate him he just got on my nerves, a lot. He was on the football team with Liam and they were best friends.
Jackson was my neighbor. He was tall and pretty well built. I'm pretty sure the football team worked out together. He had green eyes and dark brown hair. He had tan skin that I'm sure was natural because his whole family had it. His lips were plump and pink which I found kind of hot. I would never ever tell him that though. His smile was probably the best thing ever. His teeth were pearly white and his teeth were perfectly straight. No wonder so many girls loved him. Me not being one of them obviously, but I'll admit when someone looks good. He had a twin, but his twin wasn't an identical equally as hot guy. Nope, his twin was a girl. A girl named Jessica. You heard me right, Jessica. As in dating my best friend Jessica. I didn't so much enjoy living next door to her.
"What do you want Jackson?" I asked him.
"I just came to talk to my favorite person," he said smiling and batting his eyelashes. I rolled my eyes but still let out a soft laugh.
"I was just joking around before, but now I actually think you want something," I said as I started off to my next class.
"Just food, but I doubt you have any of that," he replied walking beside me.
"We just had lunch," I told him.
"Your point being?" he asked. I laughed and shook my head.
"Seriously what do you want?" I asked him again.
"Well as you know the first football game of the season is Friday," he said "Coach wanted us to ask everyone to come. First game it's obviously going to be amazing," he smiled.
"Yeah your sister already asked me to come," I told him.
"Now a cool person is asking you to come, so you have to," he said. We had arrived to class. History class, I hated it. He sat down beside me even though his seat was in the back of the class.
"I don't think that's how it works," I told him.
"Liam will be there," he said winking at me. Okay earlier when I said Nichole and Brandon were the only ones that knew, I lied. Jackson knew, but he only knew because he's my neighbor. One time Liam was over at his house and when he left I may have let it slip. Now Jackson is always teasing me about it.
"Yeah he is on the team. I figured he would be there," I said.
"So you're coming then, great," He said while clapping his hands together.
"I never said that," I shook my head.
"Oh come on Maella it's just one game," he tried convincing me. I sighed. What was so special about this game anyways?
"Fine, one game," I gave in.
