I leaned over and looked down, and WOOSH-
Peniel streaked past the open window higher, higher than he went the first time. And then, he soared over New York City. My lips tugged into an unwilling smile. I shook my head, the smile still firmly in place.
He would hunt and be back by dawn. I left the panel open, as I did every night, for my other birds to fly in and out of the greenhouse. Unfortunately, my grounded animals didn't get the same luxury. But I had grown all different types of trees, and tied strings to small, young branches to make them grow into a certain way. It provided leverage for the cats. The dogs got to walk. Of course, I would portal every other week to 5 jungles, each one different, for each of my cats, to hunt and be free. Unlike for them, I understood what flying was like, being a winged creature myself. I understood the need to be free and feel the wind under your wings, the pleasure of swooping down low and flapping furiously to pull up.
My work was done here for a while. I watered all my night blooming plants, some 10 or so plants, and left the greenhouse.
I walked down to the Music room. That was what I called it. Being Jace Herondale's daughter, I could play the piano spectacularly well, but I also knew how to play the violin and the flute. Jem said I played very well too, and Tessa said that if Jem still played, that would have been a competition to hear. The flute was just a thing I learned, because I knew how to play a string instrument, I knew a percussion instrument, so why not a wind instrument. But I had also been bored, due to my fast learning, I had not much left to do in my spare time. So I threw myself in odd and weird things.
Jem had gotten me my own violin when I was 7, a year after Mom and Dad brought me back home from Renee's in Arizona. Magnus took her memories of me, and made her believe that I was her niece that she loved so much.
I sat down in front of the grand piano. I had gotten lessons from Dad from when I was 6 months old. My mind grew unnaturally fast, and so I was a very smart baby. Dad had played for my mom even when she was pregnant, and so when I was born, the only way to calm me was to play the piano. I had been playing since a long time, and I couldn't remember how many times Dad had take me in his lap and played for me. Like I said, I was a spoiled, rich brat who had everything she asked for.
I had no inspiration to play, so I started with a Bach piece. But I got bored with it soon. I began playing through all the music pieces Dad had ever taught me that demons didn't like. It was practice I didn't need. When I finished with the ones Dad taught me, I went through ones I had read about, found when I was looking for other things. But that too finished in only 3 hours. I had nothing to do, and I didn't want to meditate.
I got up and glanced at the violin in the corner, but that too held no interest, so I gave up in the Music room and stalked to my room.
My room was more like an apartment in itself. I had torn the walls of the rooms next to mine in an effort to make it bigger.
I had a big bathroom, a pool like circle dug into the floor of the bathroom was the bathtub I used. The entire bathroom was shaped like a square, and the bathtub was at the edge perpendicular to the edge with the door. It was a big tub, around 4 meters radius. The inside of the tub, was tiled with the colors of the beach, a light golden brown on the side close to the glass sliding door, and deep blue to the side near the window. The tub's floor grew deeper into the ground gradually, it was half a foot at the very being of the brown tiling and gradually fell away till it reached a depth of about 3 feet at the deep blue tiling.
