If you turn off the main road of a little dirt path in Summit, California, you'll find a little and I do mean little, town with people busily working away. This is what I've grown up with, the mundane work of waking up, going to school, and walking home or, waking up going to work at the only ice cream shop in town for miles, and then walking home.
Since it's summer and teens my age are supposed to be enjoying themselves and all that crap, I'm just sitting waiting for my best friend Amelia to pick me up to take us to the beach.
After waiting half an hour she finally shows up at my house.
"I'm so happy we get to finally go to the beach! Now get your cute butt in here" Amelia screeches.
"Alright I'm coming, miss prissy pants" I say as I'm being smacked on the arm when I get in the car.
"You do remember where we turn off right" I questioned.
"Yes, gosh we don't go to the beach in six months and you already think I forgot how to get there" Amelia stated.
Ever since Amelia and I got our license, we've been discovering new places in what little we actually can discover in this little town. One of our discoveries led us to stumble upon a secret path to a secluded part of the beach just off the main road, now we've been going there ever since just about every weekend, until classes caught up with us.
When we got there we just enjoyed spending time with each other and laughing our butts off, until we caught sight of a certain shirtless torso, decorated with an array of tattoos.
"Oh my look at that piece of gorgeous meat" I said drooling over the guy in front of us.
"Mango" Amelia yell-whispers our code word for when we see a hot guy.
"Wait you aren't even concerned on how he found this place or why he's here" I questioned.
"Who cares maybe he has some friends, so there's plenty to go around" Amelia said.
"Yeah and that's what I'm worried about. We've been here for a few hours anyway, let's go" I say trying to usher Amelia along.
"Ugh fine your no fun"
With that we grabbed our things and left without the stranger seeing us. After a fun drive home filled with singing along to Hunter Hayes, we finally arrived at my house by six where Amelia dropped me off.
"Thanks again, I'll see you tomorrow" I said waving goodbye.
After watching Amelia drive off I went inside walking straight to my room. With a quick shower, I dove into bed with a dream of faceless strangers.
I was woken up in the middle of the night by voices I recognized as the sheriff and his partner. Creeping down stairs, I was curious to know what was going on, as if reading my thoughts my parents turned and saw me standing in the door way to the kitchen.
"Honey sit down" my dad ordered me.
I did as I was told, holding a questioning look on my face the whole time.
"Amber, were you with Amelia at around two thirty approximately" the sheriff questioned me.
"Yes what is this about" I question.
"We know that you probably had nothing to do with it, but earlier tonight we found Amelia's body hung on the iron bars of her front gate. We have to take you in for questioning. I'm sorry" the Sheriff said.
With that I couldn't even hear anymore it was just a constant ringing in my ears. I had just been with Amelia a few hours before. Everything was a blur as I tried standing and reaching for a chair to lean on, I only stumbled and lost my balance. That's when everything went black.
