CHAPTER 10;
"Alright girls! Who volunteers to be our designated driver for the night?" Kayla asked us.
"I did it last Friday!" Kate said through an eye roll.
"I drove here." Said Kayla.
We were parked at John's lake house, walking up to the front door. There were cars lined up everywhere and people already holding beers and skinny dipping in the lake. Couples were making out and flirting, intoxicated teenagers puking in the front yard.
This was going to be a loooonng night.
"Well Sam can't do it because she can't hold herself away from alcohol, so..." Kate stated. Everyone turned to look at Mia and I.
I looked at Mia. She looked at me. I caved.
"Fine. I'll do it. We have a game tomorrow anyways." Everyone slapped my shoulder, pleased I took away the burden. They all stepped inside, leaving me on the porch alone.
As I stood in the doorway, it finally occurred to me that this was my first party. Ever. It was my first experience with drunk teenagers, well besides Kayla when she sometimes comes to my house completely wasted and can't go home because her parents would kill her. This was it, this was the real deal that everybody says I'm "missing out on".
I opened the door and music blares in my face with the profuse smell of alcohol and sweat clogging my nostrils.
I looked to find my friends sprinkled out all over the room. Kate was flirting with this new football jock, Kayla and Jason reserved the couch for an intense make out session, only stopping for air and to drink more beer, Sam was with Will and Mia. Sam had a beer in her hand and was flirting up Will, while Mia stood jealous on the sidelines.
Kalista is teaching Tyler how to play quarters in the kitchen, kissing him roughly on the lips every time he makes one in a cup.
I watch them for a few minutes until I see Kalistas hands go further and further up Tyler's leg.
I want to throw up. I want to throw up and leave, and sleep in my bed for eternity. I. Hate. This.
I turn my attention to the other side of the room where it appears to be the dining room.
Avery was talking to one of his football friends named Eric, trying to push off some drunk blonde who keeps trying to get as close as she can to him and flirt with him. Avery clearly looks annoyed with her.
I smile to myself.
After awhile Avery pushes the girl off completely and she looks angry and hurt. She puts her hand to her hip and gives him a stern look. Avery gets up in her face and says something that upsets her so much that she runs away, beer in hand.
Avery starts to turn around until he catches my eyes. He stops mid way and smiles. It's not one of his usual smirks either, he's actually smiling with his teeth, which actually makes me blush and before I know it, I'm smiling back.
I can tell he walked away from Eric in the middle of their conversation as Eric was in the middle of saying something.
"Dude! Where you going?" Eric yelled over the noise of the obnoxious teenagers. Avery didn't drop eye contact with me as he responded.
"Going to hang out with Taylor. See you later man." Avery had changed into a pair of jeans and a football car wash fundraiser t-shirt that complemented his completion perfectly. He was wearing his football varsity jacket with a pair of blue Nike sneakers and his hair was still wet from a shower he must have taken.
