After that night, after all the light conversations, deep revelations, and all the personal reflection. We found each other as almost the same people. We had so much alike, we still do.
Rainy season gave Watson her favorite pastime which was typically, staying in bed all morning singing "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson. Rainy season gave me my favorite pastime as well, sleeping well until noon as the sun wouldn't peek through my maroon curtains and wake me up, ever so rudely.
"Parker, don't you wake up early?" I saw Watson's message taunting me brightly from the screen of my phone, we were constantly messaging each other, and after last night's "See you at Narnia!" fiasco, (I had fallen asleep as we were about to board the Dawn Treader), she had flooded me with guilt trip messages.
"You know how much I love sleep Watson, almost as much as coffee." I replied hastily, burying myself under the warmth of my comforter, as the rain had gotten stronger outside.
"Parker, you haven't even had brekky yet have you?" I saw the message instantly and laughed, I knew she could see right through me almost immediately, even if it was just through phone messages.
"But, it's too early, I'll miss it today. -_-" Hitting 'SEND' I started laughing, as the rain masked my voice. I knew exactly what she would message me next.
"Parker, 10am is not 'too early'. Get up silly. :P" So, I did. And I regretted it the very moment I had thrown off my crimson red comforter. The cold air in my room suddenly attacked my arms and legs (how I curse myself for just wearing basketball shorts and a white tee as my pajamas) so I scurried out of my room and into the kitchen suddenly realizing that our gas was out, and I needed to call for a new once since my mom and sister went out early.
Grabbing my phone, I typed in a rushed message and sent it to Watson. "Cold today, perfect for doughnuts and hot coffee." I hurried to my room and immediately ironed a maroon long sleeved shirt (a perfect match with my crimson tie), when my phone suddenly rang. Generic ring tones sure are amazing... Answering it without looking, I continued ironing.
"Hello?" My phone pinned between my ear and my shoulder, I tried not to press on it too much.
"Parker! Doughnuts and coffee?" Watson's voice resonated clearly through my flip phone.
"Yeah, rainy days like this remind me of them, well the comfort of having them." I said hastily as I finished ironing my shirt and hanging it in my closet.
"Are you doing chores?" She asked innocently, probably hearing me open the closet door with a creak.
"Just finished ironing Watson. So, what about the doughnuts and coffee?" I jumped back on our topic and I stared out of my kitchen window, eyeing heavy fog hiding the numerous pine trees in our village, as a heavy rainfall muffled all sounds.
"Wanna have some? I'm sure brunch right now is a better option for us." Her voice hung a bit on a tone of expectation as she ended her question. I was still quite drowsy but, I had completely heard her, and was completely speechless. I'm sure a good thirty seconds passed by as my mind was so addled by the sudden inquiry of Watson.
"PARKER!" Snapping me back to a very surprising reality Watson raised her voice and I fumbled with my phone as it had almost slipped from my clumsy fingers.
"Yes Watson?" I ask sheepishly as I hear her loud laugh echo from the other line. I see, so you laugh at my clumsiness as usual.
"So, doughnut..." I cut her off immediately.
"Yes, doughnuts and hot coffee, in twenty minutes." A playfully stern tone is what I had used to say this, probably catching her off guard.
"Twenty? Are you definitely sure?" Throwing back her seriousness to combat mine I could feel a slight tension rise between us.
"Fine in thirty Watson." I give in once more as I hear a slight giggle escape her, trying to hide it with a cough.
"See you at the mall then, I'm sure you know what doughnut place we're going to Parker?" She asked confidently as I remembered one of our talks a few nights before on favorite places to eat, we actually had this one in common.
"Yep see you there Watson!" I hurry and say my goodbye as she told me that she'd get ready.
Thirty minutes went by real quick, and just like a coordinated director would pan it out, the moment I got to the mall I saw Watson entering as well. A dark grey bonnet hid the top of her head, but her deep eyes caught my attention immediately. As our eyes met, she broke out a wide smile as she pointed to my dark brown overcoat, as I noticed her wearing a jacket of the same shade. I now smiling too just shrugged my shoulders as I mouthed out to her "Matching again." , she simply nodded and continued to smile as we soon stood face to face.
And in that moment a funny thing happened, the mall started playing a tune we both immediately recognized, and with a hearty laugh from both of us I lead the way to the doughnut place.
"Can't you see that it's just rainin, ain't no need to go outside." I sing along to the music.
"No Parker, I guess we need to go outside." Watson finishes as she sings her words as well. I smile and nod, happy I missed breakfast, for brunch.
