Funny how convenience stores have become our go to spot for serious talks. Kind of. Well, we do talk about everything and anything, at absolutely anywhere.
"Ever heard of affogato?" Watson stirred her coffee slowly as she sat across me. Her question quite foreign to me, is this "affogato" a place? , I just shook my head and maintained a blank expression on my face.
We were at a seven eleven, about five minutes away from our office. A 'perfect' place to have some coffee and talk after a hard day's work I suppose. It was alright. We found that it had a few wooden tables with benches to match them, pretty cool if you ask me.
Watson and I each grabbed a cup of hot coffee that they had, it probably was a store made brew. Though I hadn't frequented it then because.I loved my coffee home made or from a café I always went to close to home.
"It's a dessert, Italian. Like gelato with a shot of espresso on top." She moved her fingers delicately into a shape of a cup, trying to mimic an ice cream cup, her eyes closed as she smiled and sighed.
"What you would give to have one now yeah?" I said taking a sip from my vanilla infused brew. Seven eleven outdid themselves today. This was good.
"You said it, and I've noted that there are no cafés serving that here." She said downcast as she eyed her own cup of steaming coffee.
"Why not start one?" I replied jokingly, laughing as I watched a few cars pass by the store.
"That's not a bad idea Parker!" She said grinning back at me.
"Yeah, it isn't. So, two million bucks?" I raised my eyebrow as I waited for her reaction.
"Rob a bank?" I could tell she was holding back a laugh again.
"Nah, remember, Spiderman stops the act of robbing banks." I looked up, starting a little act.
"Ohhhhh. Can't have you catching yourself Parker." She played along as she started to wag her finger in disapproval.
"Worst thing is, I'd pin you as an accomplice." I gasped as I said this, funnily, she did too.
"You wouldn't..." She covered her mouth and her eyes had widened.
"Oh but I would!" I raised my voice a bit as I leaned in closer, almost half way across the table.
"PETER!" She said, putting both hands on the table firmly, trying her best not to smile.
"MJ!" I placed both my hands under my chin, blinking my eyes repeatedly trying to get her to let out her laugh.
"Parker noooooo... If I spit my coffee in your general direction." She threatened as she she stifled back a few giggles, keeping her coffee cup gripped in her right hand.
"Parker can dodge that. Spidey senses Watson. Spidey senses." Crossing my arms across my chest I had smiled confidently.
"Want to test those 'Spidey senses' now?" After saying that she immediately brought the cup to her lips and she started to drink its contents. I, suddenly felt alarmed as she may actually try and test the alleged validity of the "Spidey senses".
"No Watson, no, no." I pleaded, my eyes opened wide, as I placed both my hands in front of my face, covering my eyes.
What followed though was a different surprise however. A sudden flash. What was that?
I removed my hands from my face and discovered what was the exact source of the ominous flash of light. It was phone covered in an aqua blue plastic casing, held up parallel to my face as a giggling Watson held it.
"Oops! Flash was on!" She said in between giggles as she stared at the screen of her phone. I reached out and tried to grab it but she swatted my hand away very quickly.
"Let me see." I edged on trying to reach for it again as she moved it too far for me to reach, smiling mischievously throughout the ordeal.
"No Parker, you can't touch the phone, don't want you deleting this very very rare photo." She shook her head laughing now as I, mouth agape still tried to grab the phone.
"Fine. Keep it, it's a gift then, first of many." I gave up and just smiled as I resumed drinking my coffee. Mumbling as I kept looking at Watson's phone.
"Yep, first of many! Like tonight Parker, coffee with you is quite interesting." Beaming, she stowed away her phone into her small bag as she grasped her coffee cup with both her hands. Her dark brown eyes focused on mine as I started to smile as well. The chilly midnight breeze blowing through, did not really bother me as I had sat there now laughing at another of her side remarks. I never thought convenience stores would be that interesting. Are convenience stores supposed to be interesting even? I suppose they really were.
