Sticks and stones

People say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me:
But my broken arm healed faster then the words you said before you left.
The scars of my leg are smaller then the ones on my heart.
A scratch takes a week to disappear where as your words replay in my head like a broken record.  "But words don't hurt if you don't give them the power to do so." That's so far from the truth. Something physical is a different story.  You can stick a match between your teeth and not give it the power to kill you. But words hurt no matter what. You don't give it the power to hurt you. It's not a physical being.  People will replay your words until it feels as though they will loose all sense of control. we don't give words power.  Your tongue is a knife with the potential of cutting someone.  You can't give something power it's had all along.
