The shelter doors just opened for the day, it was a bright and sunny morning. Birds were chirping as people walked by. The shelter staff were getting ready for their adoption event. In the back of their shelter they had a large grassy area. That is where they planned to set up the play pens and kennels for the available dogs and cats. Some of the dogs and puppies were just laying down and soaking up the sun, while the others played around in the grass. Once everything was all set up and they were ready to get the event started, one of the staff members comes out with the very last candidate for adoption. He was a little scared but his tail wagged so hard and fast. He had been adopted out before but the people that adopted him didn't realize the responsibility, commitment and effort it would be having a great dane puppy. Though he done nothing wrong he was returned to the shelter to find a new forever home.
Just a couple blocks away, a lonely rich 19 year old girl, named Morgan, was vacationing in a cabin. This was her last day in this state, this cabin and this wonderful place. She thought about moving here, there are a lot of things she could do. Hiking, going down town to the cafe, going to the beach, and the shopping was so amazing. As she was getting ready to leave her cabin for the day, she stumbled across a flyer she had gotten the other day for a local adoption event. Morgan had decided she would stop by the event in the afternoon after doing some shopping. She thought to herself, maybe I'll find a cat or a dog to keep me company. Sliding on her favorite boots, grabbing her keys and purse she left her cabin. Getting in her car and driving to the clothing store she saw downtown. After buying some things she looked at her watch and decided to go grab a bite to eat before going to the animal shelter. Finishing up her delicious club sandwich from the deli store Morgan walked off to the shelter to find a new best friend.
Morgan reached the shelter and stood outside for a bit. The shelter wasn't that big but it was full to capacity. After asking where to go for the adoption event she followed the walkway to the back of the shelter. Amazed at the large fenced in grassy area holding all these dog playpens and kennels. So many choices overwhelmed her, there were golden retrievers, beagles, spaniels, chihuahuas, great danes and some amazing little kittens. The dogs barked at people who passed by them, trying to grab their attentions to get noticed. Morgan kept quiet and visited each kennel and playpen that held the puppies. She spent time with each one trying to find the right match for her. She reached the last playpen, it held 3 great dane puppies, a black and white mantle male puppy, a lightly brown with dark brown spotted harlequin female puppy, and the last puppy was a beautiful male fawn puppy.
Two of the puppies, the fawn and the harlequin, ran up to the side of the playpen were Morgan was standing. The puppy that she was interested in, the mantle, stayed back cautiously. He wagged his tail from a distance but didn't walk up to the side of the playpen. Morgan decided that he was just as lonely as she was, even though he had two other puppies in this pen, he was lonely and the right puppy for her. They would keep each other company and do amazing things together. Reaching over the playpen she picked him up and took him inside to do all the paperwork. The shelter staff told her how he was once adopted and in a loving home but returned so they were hopeful that he would find his forever home today. After paying all the adoption fees, getting him microchipped and updated on his shots, she made a donation to the shelter. In return of the donation she received a small puppy starter package, it had 4 large bags of puppy food, a set of bowls, a tennis ball, bubble blower, a woven collar, a yellow leash, puppy shampoo and a soft bristle puppy brush for him. They left the shelter both happy and ready to start their new lives together.
Morgan brought him home into her cabin, turned on the fireplace and sat on the floor trying to think of a name for him. He was so clumsy and would get bursts of energy to were he'd start to run and then slow down. He laid by the fireplace and took a little nap. Morgan filled his water bowl and food bowl for him. Spread out his toys and started calling out names to him. "Max, Bentley, Joey, Batman, Tux..." but none of those names were getting his attention. She thought long and hard and then called out one last name..... Fidget. He trotted over to her and wagged his tail and so he got a name. Fidget the black and white great dane puppy living with Morgan. Together their lives have changed for the better, she has a companion and he has got someone to love.
