Time was passing slowly for Morgan, she had lost a lot of herself this year. Her boyfriend Tristen, and her precious baby boy Figaro. Morgan had just received his ashes from the vets in the mail this afternoon. It took her forever to open the box containing the ashes, a paw print plaque and a card from the vets. She had the perfect spot for his ashes to be set in the house. On warm beautiful days he would bask in the sun, she had decided the ledge he would sleep on would be a great place to set his box with a photo of him and his paw print. Fidget had been acting weird since the day Morgan arrived home without his furry kitten friend. He had been searching day and night for him throughout the house. Driving Morgan insane with the constant whining and pitter patter of his feet at night. Hollywood tried to cheer him up sometimes but he would not engage in play with her. He was starting to get depressed that his buddy wasn't anywhere in the house. Days passed by, Fidget hadn't touched his food. Morgan decided it was time to go to the vets and see if they can give him something to not be depressed or if something was really wrong with him like there was something wrong with Figaro. The autopsy results for Figaro had shown that his kidneys were not functioning along with his liver. So best to get all the puppies checked out one at a time so no more lost has to happen.
Morgan had dropped Fidget off at the vets for testing to be done to him. Blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds any test they can do and will do to make sure he is a healthy boy. It seemed like forever to Morgan that her phone wasn't ringing or she hasn't gotten a call yet. Her mind is playing tricks on her, she knows Fidget is fine and that the vets will call when he is ready for pick up. Around 5pm, the vets had called back and said that she could pick him up but the test results wouldn't be back in for another week. Driving down to the vets she couldn't stop thinking about how Figaro had suffered for a while. Seeing him at the end so skinny killed her. It's like she didn't even notice he was slowly losing weight. Morgan finally reached the vets office and went inside to pick Fidget up. He was all wiggles and happy barks to see her, it made Morgan laugh and smile. Bending down to his level, she gave him the longest scratch on the top of his head and let him lick her to death.
Hooking him up to her leash, she walked him outside and into her car he went. They drove home together and he got the biggest meal ever for being such a good boy. Morgan had decided that she needed to just have Fidget alone with her for a while. She was going to rehome Hollywood because it was too much hurt seeing her precious face reminding her of Tristen. It was for the best in her eyes. Friday had finally come and there was a knock at the door. The family, that was going to take Hollywood, seemed to adore her and would be a loving fit. They didn't live nearby but the drove for miles to see her. Morgan interviewed them and asked a thousand questions to see if they would be a good fit for her. They asked if they were active and could play with her a lot. They answered every question truthfully, Morgan gave them her leash and a bunch of toys along with her dog food. She got down on the floor called Hollywood over and gave her a bunch of kisses and hugs. Fidget was locked up in the bedroom and he was barking up a storm. Something was going on and he wasn't apart of it. Tears ran down Morgan's face as the family left with Hollywood and a bunch of items that she gave them.
It was hard for her to give up the last thing that was apart of Tristen but she had to move on from the hurt. She thought she could try to work things out but knowing in her heart that he got this dog because of her and isn't here to love her and train her hurt Morgan so bad. Morgan went down the hallway, opened the door that contained Fidget and let him out. Flying down the hallway like a firework he was too late to say goodbye to another one of his friends. He sniffed around, tons of new smells, he searched the house again but Hollywood was no where to be found. Morgan sat down with her laptop and emailed Tristen's sister telling her that she had to rehome Hollywood and that she was in a better home that loves her. They chatted back and forth for a while and then Morgan fed Fidget and got some food herself.
Later that evening, Morgan decided to go out for a jog by herself. She needed some fresh air and just wanted to be alone. Fidget yipped and barked as she closed the door without him joining her. He was frantic and tried to get out of the house any way he could. Morgan had been gone for 20 minutes now and Fidget finally found a way out of the house. A window had been left open in her bedroom and he could easily get to it by jumping from her bed. He jumped and jumped and jumped until finally made a hole big enough for him to fit through on the final jump. He crashed through the window and landed on the grass outside. He ran and ran trying to find Morgan, Hollywood and Figaro. His nose was leading him astray, he couldn't find either of them. He kept running into the distance and by the time Morgan got home he was long gone. Morgan came into the house and figured that Fidget was just sleeping on her bed like he always does when she leaves. Going down the hallway to her bedroom she peaked from the doorway but didn't see him curled up on her bed. Entering her bedroom she notices the window has a hole in it and she runs outside quickly. Yelling for his name out loud but it couldn't be heard. She got into her car and drove around to the usual spots they would walk. Fidget was no where to be found.
She went back home and made a bunch of posters and called all the neighbors. No one has seen him, everyone had joined Morgan in search of him as it was night time. That's when the Coyotes like to come down from the hills and find food in the city. There was no way he was going to survive unless he was found. As she got to the mountain trail she shined her flashlight and something sparkled in the distance. A neighbor and her ran towards it in hopes it was him. It was his bright red collar with his name tag and his license. Frantically she called his name out as loud as she can along with her neighbor. They waited to see if they could hear him barking but there was dead silence. They continued up the mountain trail and there is a fork in the road. They waited for more neighbors to come join up with them so they would have two people on each road in case of trouble. Handing out walkie-talkies they went their separate ways. Morgan was scared and could hear the howling in a distance. Where could Fidget have gone? She was worried sick, everything bad was happening to her and she didn't know why.
The two neighbors radioed into Morgan and a neighbor, they had found something but it wasn't good news. Morgan had raced to the other road and met up with them. It was Fidget and it looked like he was hit by a car and losing a ton of blood. They didn't even notice the trail of blood in the dirt road. He wouldn't make it, he had lost too much blood to be saved. The neighbors wrapped him up in a sweater and carried him down the road to try to make it to the vets. Fidget held on as he was a fighter but just as they got him into the car to drive to the vets he lost the battle and took his final breath. Morgan cried and lost it while holding onto him. Losing everyone she loves dearly it wasn't fair to her. She had been doing things right. It was her fault for stressing out Fidget and making him so depressed and anxious all the time. She wish she didn't get rid of Hollywood or had let him come with her on that jog. Blaming herself wasn't going to bring anyone back. The vets made the arrangements to get Fidget cremated and would ship the ashes to her when he was done.
