These are my reasons for why the time that Aladdin takes place in cannot be defined.
During the song "A whole new world", Aladdin and Jasmine pass the Parthenon in Greece which was built around 447 B.C. E.
But they also pass the sphinx being built around 2500 B. C. E.
They also are seen watching fireworks at the Forbidden City which was built around the 1400s C. E.
Fireworks were invented around the 7th century.
Finally, there are references to Islam which was founded around the 7th century as well.
So I can conclude that the magic carpet is the TARDIS in disguise
JK. I have no idea when it took place.
