Disney's Pocahontas has been criticized for its portrayal of Native Americans. The real Pocahontas is much different.
1. Pocahontas was much younger than John Smith. There relationship was like a father's with his daughter.
2. Pocahontas was an ordinary girl. Not the chief's daughter.
3. Trees can't talk. Period.
4. Pocahontas was raped so she was married to a tobacco farmer.
5. She was taken to England and converted to Christianity.
6. Pocahontas died from either tuberculosis or pneumonia.
Disney romanticized the colonizers who took Pocahontas's land, and it profits off of the costumes they have made based off of her. Pocahontas may have been an entertaining movie to watch as a child, but it completely erased the trauma that the Indigenous people of America endured and are still living with because of colonizers.
