today we sprinkled your ashes among the l a v e n d e r s you loved so much.
i'm sorry
that i broke
our promise
of forever.
in the end
we all just crumble
into dust;
ashes,
ashes,
we all fall down.
ashes, ashes, they all fall d o w n.
my eyes teared a little, but when your mother asked, i said that it was the glare from the sun.
i wish i wasn't so selfish, but i couldn't let go of that last handful of ashes - couldn't let go of you.
i buried it in my garden, under that oak tree we used to play under.
(why is it so hard to say goodbye?)
