i found veronica behind the cafeteria during lunch and she was crying. i sat down next to her, silently watched the tears stream down her a m e t h y s t eyes. 

she was different - different from the others, different from what i thought. she didn't have a face caked full of makeup, like she didn't care how others thought she looked. and her wrists, violet, her wrists - they were lined with fading scars. they were so faint that you could only see them if you looked carefully. (no one else had probably cared to look close enough. she had so many friends, but none of them even cared.)

that was sad. she was sad. 

neither of us said anything. when the bell rang, she dried her eyes, and left.

after school, i left a slip of paper in her locker:

just try to be happier, alright?
