I wake up to the sound of knocking, but it takes me a while to register what is going on. Looking dazedly through the blinds in front of my window, I see it’s still dark out. What time is it? Another knock on the door, but this time I know what’s going on, and, even better, who it is.

“Chase what do you want?” I glanced at the clock, 3:36am.

“Seriously dude? It’s three thirty.” Another knock.

“Fine,” I mutter walking to the door. When I get there, I open the door so hard and fast, it slips out of my hand and hits the wall with a loud bang and we both wince.

“Good morning!” Chase says with a smile.

Rolling my eyes, I turn away and walk back to my bed, slowly getting in it and throwing the covers of my head. The warmth of the bed makes me want to fall back asleep so much more.

“C’mon, sunshine. Get up. I have a surprise.” I could hear Chase’s voice get louder as he walks towards me and pops a squat right next to me.

“I’m sure it’s a surprise that can wait until it’s a normal time for surprises to happen, right? Yes. So goodnight, Chase. It’s been nice chatting with you. Goodbye.” Although, through all of this, being awake and talking makes me think that no matter how hard I try, I won’t be able to fall back asleep for a while.

“Fine. Why did you so graciously wake me up this morning? What’s the big surprise that couldn’t wait until at least 7 in the morning?” I questioned, throwing the covers off of my face and sitting up.

“Come with me.” The smile never left Chase’s face as he grabbed my hand, threw a sweatshirt in my face, and walked out my door, down the stairs, and to the front door.

Putting the sweatshirt on gingerly, I stare at Chase straight in the eyes, waiting for him to explain what is going on. But he doesn’t. He just stares back with a large, cheesy smile. “Well?” I ask intently.

“About… Oh… Three years ago, you brought up the fact that you love rain.”

“Yes. I did.” I whispered so my parents don’t wake up, squinting my eyes. Where is he going with this?

“So, please change your focal point from me, to the street.” He said pointing out the window located next to the front door.

“Rain.” I started getting a little more excited, only because even though I remember telling Chase that I love being in the rain, I don’t remember the details I mentioned, like what I wanted to do in it.

“You had mentioned…” But he trailed off, leaving me to think of what I had said.

Instead of telling me, Chase grabbed my hand and flung the door open, dragging me into the 3:30 hard rain which is coming down faster than I thought it was.

“Will you please tell me what your plan is before I venture into this freezing water?” I ask, crossing my arms to keep myself warm. Thank God Chase gave me this sweatshirt. Under the awning I couldn’t feel all of the rain, just little sprinkles here and there.

“If you’ll take my hand,” he started, putting his hand out. Hesitantly, I grabbed it. “Follow me.” He said.

Walking towards the street, I could hear a faint noise. Curiously, I looked around, but not seeing a thing. Although, what could you really see when it is pitch black out, except for what is under the spotlight of the street lamps.

“What is that noise?” I asked. But Chase just acted like he hadn’t heard me.

“Can you please tell me what is going on? I don’t really enjoy standing in the middle of the street when it’s pouring out at 3:30 in the morning. But that’s just me.”

The music slowly got louder, and I started making out the lyrics to a Ron Pope song.

“Nice song choice.” I smiled.

“May I?” He asked, putting his hand out. What? He wanted to dance?

“Wha-?” But then what I had told Chase started flooding my mind. Chase and I were hanging out at his house, watching a movie. One I don’t recall, but all I know is it had some sex-drived male. “You know, guys are rarely ever romantic. I mean, they’re busier with their video games than they are hanging out with girls. And if they are hanging with girls, they’re making some snooty comment about sex or something that isn’t funny. I mean, there’s one thing that every girl wants to happen at least once in their life.” I said, aggravated with the male leading role. “What’s that?” Chase asked me. “To dance in the rain.”

“You’re joking, right? What’s the point in that? You might as well dance in the shower, more normal,” he had said.

“I don’t mean by themselves, idiot.” I said, pushing Chase’s shoulder. “I mean with a guy. It’s romantic. I don’t know why, but it is. I love rain, and I think it’d be so romantic for a guy to just take my hand and ask me to dance with him.” I stated. All I got was a questioning look from Chase. Chase: my male friend who I’ve never known to be romantic one bit.

“Seriously?” I smirked.

“Completely.” Maybe being away for so long in Hollywood has been good to him, he’s learned a few moves for the ladies.

I put my arms around Chase’s neck, and he put his around my waist carefully. After him turning up the music, I tilted my head back, and closed my eyes.

“The rain feels great, Chase.” I said putting my head back down and staring straight into his dazzling blue eyes. “Thank you.” All I could do was give a big smile. This was so sweet of him.

“I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you. I haven’t seen you in so long; I wanted you to know what a ladies’ man I’ve become.” He said with a wink.

“Oh gosh,” I laughed. As if right on cue, a fast song started up from Chase’s pocket.

“Oh I love this song!” I shrieked, letting go of Chase and almost simultaneously, we both started crazy dancing. Our arms stretched out, palms facing up, tongues flying out to catch the stray drops of water (which wasn’t hard considering it is pouring harder than it was when we came outside,) singing out loud. I’m so glad to have my Chasey back.
