Song: Heart like yours - Willamette Stone

This story starts the summer I turned thirteen years old. A family had just moved into the house beside ours and mom was making us invite them over for dinner, to welcome them to the neighborhood. And that meant that I had to wear my glasses, so I didn't "freak them out." As mom so graciously put it. You can guess how great that was for my self esteem.

Anyway, we had about an hour til the neighbors came over and mom made me take a shower and attempted to style my unruly hair. After giving up on making my hair cooperate, she thrust a pair of glasses into my hand and left me alone in my room to finish getting ready. I sighed and pushed the glasses up the bridge of my nose to cover up my eyes.

I'm sure you're wondering by now, "How the fuck did you lose your eyesight anyway?" Well, it was a car accident, ok? I wasn't buckled properly, sharp blow to the head, yadda yadda yadda... Can I continue the story now? Great, thanks.

I heard the doorbell ring as I made my way down the stairs. No doubt my mom was rushing to greet them at that moment, her voice all bubbly and full of enthusiasm. I scoffed at the thought and shuffled into the kitchen, knowing that was exactly what she was doing.

If you couldn't tell already, I'm not a big fan of my mother, Becky Novak. She's controlling and tries to make it look like we have a "perfect family." I guess I screwed that up when I went blind, even though technically it was her fault.

"Hey kiddo." Dad said as I slipped into the kitchen.

"Sup dad." I smiled feeling my way to the counter. Unlike my mom, my dad is awesome; i always wondered how they ended up together. He gave us more freedom then mom ever did, and made mom tone down her need to control everything, which we were all glad for.

"I'm gonna bring food to the dining table, wanna help?" He asked. I nodded and mumbled a "sure thing." He pressed a warm dish to my chest and made me follow him to the dinner table.

"Castiel?" I cringed as mom called my name in a sing song voice, she only used that voice when she wanted something. I set the dish on the table and smiled.

"Yeah mom?"

"Come over here and meet our guests." I sighed and ran a hand over my face.

"Have you forgotten that I cannot, in fact, see, so I have no idea where "here" is." I said, turning in the general direction of her voice.

"She's by the couch, son." Dad said quietly, nudging me in her direction. I nodded and trudged over to the couch. I counted my steps, there were twelve steps from the couch to the dinner table and vise versa.

"This is my son, Castiel. Cas, this is Mary Winchester and her two sons, Sam and Dean." She introduced, putting my shoulder in a death grip.

"Hello." I nodded, waving a little. A small someone tugged on the edge of my shirt. I moved my hand down and felt a small hand pulling on the hem.

"Why are you wearing sunglasses? It's not sunny." A small child's voice asked sheepishly. I bent over so I was In front of the voice.

"It's cause I can't see anything, they cover up my eyes." I said in a softer voice than normal.

"Oh... can I see your eyes?" He asked, even more sheepishly than the last time. I nodded and was about to take off the sunglasses when mom gripped my shoulder again, tighter this time.

"We don't wanna freak Sam out, now do we?" She said in a stern tone that basically said "don't you fucking dare take off those sunglasses Castiel Novak, or God so help me."

I sighed and nodded, straightening up again.

"Maybe next time, ok?" I told Sam. He mumbled a small, "ok" before mom interrupted once again.

"Ok Castiel," she announced, clapping her hands. "Dean is about your age, why don't you two hang out in your room while we wait for Gabriel to get home." I nodded and reached out my hand.

"Which one's Dean?" I ask, shaking my hand a little to add a little emphasis. Someone took my hand.

"This guy." Confident voice declared.

"Alrighty, let's head up stairs." I said pulling him towards the stairs.

And that was the first time I met Dean Winchester.

When we sat down in my room he flicked on the lights. I heard them turn on and sputter from lack of use.

"Nice room." He said in the same confident tone. I could hear the smirk in his voice. "I'm loving the decorative boxers hanging from the bedpost, very classy." I scoffed at him, feeling my way over to the bed and sitting down.

"I have no idea how long those have been there." I said thoughtfully, and he chuckled. His laugh made my heart flutter, he sounded beautiful. Shutup Castiel, you literally just met him.

I felt him sink into the bed beside me. I was still wondering if he was just as beautiful as he sounded.

"Can I touch your face?" I asked after a second.

"Uhhh...."

"Sorry. That sounded weird didn't it? I just wanna, uh, feel what you look like." Said, my face heating up. He chuckled again, his laugh just as beautiful as the last time.

"Sure thing Cas, only if I can see your eyes."

"Deal." I laughed, my laugh sounding bland compared to his. I reached out my hand and he guided it to his face. Muttering a "Thanks." And running my finger across his cheek.

I took my time, feeling every edge of his face. I felt every bump and crease and indent. I used my hands and made a mental image of what he felt like. He felt beautiful. I know that's a weird thing to say, but I was thirteen, give me a break.

I pulled my hand back after thoroughly exploring his features. "Thank you." I mumbled dropping my hand to my side.

"Your turn." He said softly, less confidence in his voice than before. I nodded my head, glad to be rid of the frames that sat on my face. I pulled off the lenses with ease, folding them and setting them in my lap. I heard Dean draw in a breath before letting out a low whistle.

"What're you covering 'em up for? They're amazing Cas." He complimented, I smiled and picked at the edge of my shirt.

"Really? Mom says they creep her out." I said, my voice lighter than normal. I felt a hand on my cheek.

"Yeah man, they're awesome!" He exclaimed. I felt the glasses being removed from my lap and moved somewhere unknown to me. "Don't wear 'em downstairs, I want to see your eyes, and I'm sure Sammy'd like to see 'em too." I grinned. Soon, mom's voice echoed from downstairs.

"Boys, Gabe's here! Dinner time." She yelled.

"Coming!" We yelled back in unison.

Something told me that Dean and I would get along just fine.
