Scarletmaiden_ 's Request, enjoy- sorry if it isn't exactly what you asked for :s

A serene laugh escaped your lips, as you observed Dazai imitate the grumpy Kunikida. Taking a sip from your drink, many people were eyeing you suspiciously as the man waved his arms about. Eventually, he stopped, and reached across the table taking your hand.

"I'm glad I made you laugh." He chimed, his tone playful; you rolled your (E/C) eyes, and snickered.

"People are staring, though." You murmured, to which the man flung his head back, and over dramatically sighed.

"Oh, woe is me! People were watching me!" He announced, pulling another string of giggles from your lips. When the two of you calmed down, Dazai tore his gaze away from your happy face, and beckoned a waiter over. "The bill, please." He smiled, as the waiter nodded and shuffled off towards the bar counter. The man looked back at you, as you quickly finished your drink. "Did you enjoy your meal?" He asked softly.

"Yes, of course I did"~ You replied, placing the empty glass down, and brushed your lap down from crumbs. Dazai smirked.

"I'm glad, anything for you." He dipped his head, like the gentleman he was.

A couple seconds later, the waiter returned, their expression blank and they placed the small black plate on the table, with a piece of paper resting on top. They quickly left, disappearing behind a corner; you eyed they suspiciously.

Something was off.

Dazai let go of your hand, and picked up the paper- his chestnut eyes quickly scanned the page, before the colour drained from his face, turning serious.

"What? What is it?" You asked quickly, as he crumpled the paper in his fist.

"(Y/N), get ready." He whispered, his expression deadly calm- the deadly calm that would darken his face when something bad was surely about to happen. Something not even he anticipated.

"What? Why? What did the paper say?" You repeated, worry seeping into your tone.

"Well, our lovely waiter seems to be part of the mafia." He answered slowly, standing from his seat. You instantly jumped from your seat as well, hiding behind the tall man as he scanned the room. Dazai suddenly grabbed your hand, breaking into a run and heading towards the exit- the large glass doors of the restaurant were almost within arm's reach when...

An ear-splitting bang echoed within the room, shattering the windows around you. Shards of sharp glass flew outwards in a flurry, as you both fell backwards to avoid their grasp. You cried out when a few sliced through your clothing, embedding themselves into your arms and legs. Dazai had taken the worst hit, though, but he was quickly back on his feet standing over you protectively. Civilians began to scream making your heart pound- adrenaline coursed through your veins, and you sucked breath after breath into your lungs.

You knew this was bad. Really bad. Not only were you in danger of being shot, but when you panicked too much... your heart suffered for it. You'd had the condition since you were a young child, it rendered you nearly helpless in dangerous situations. Dazai would always take caution over your fragile heart, almost as if he was your guardian angel- yet there was nothing he could do right now.

The man clenched his fists, looking down at his torn bandages and frowning.

"Aw,not only did you rip my perfectly tied bandages, but you endangered my love- now you're going to get it!" He yelled, furiously, as his eyes darted around the room. Where was the attacker?

Dazai watched for a couple seconds longer, when... There! His eyes fell onto the same waiter as before, a pistol aimed directly at his chest.

You tried desperately to steady your shaky heart, sucking in breath after breath- but your breathing was becoming increasingly raspy, as the beating grew uneven in your chest. Dazai then noticed your position, your chest heaving and skin paling- he felt a cold wave worry flood over him, and he approached the enemy quickly.

"Bastard." The waiter growled, holding the gun higher to aim at Dazai. The brunette fixed him with a dark glare.

"Makes two of us then, can't you see what you're doing to my precious lady?" He hissed, sending a punch into the man's gut. The attacker coughed, bending over slightly. Poising an elbow, he pummeled him in the back bringing the waiter to his knees. Dazai laughed darkly.

"Lights out!" He snapped, punching the man square in the face. As soon as the waiter had collapsed, unconscious, Dazai rushed to your side and knelt down into the glass. You hand a hand clasping your chest, as your heart beat ever faster.

"(Y/N)? (Y/N) Look at me!" Dazai asked, taking one of your hands. You cautiously looked up into his eyes, finding fear swirling within them.

"My... Heart..." You gasped, clutching his hand tight. Dazai regained his composure, thinking fast for a second.

"Take deep breaths, with me now!" He ordered, beginning to take deep breaths dramatically; you tried to follow his pace, clutching his hand just that little bit tighter to show you were trying to comply. You could feel your heart straining painfully, beating fast, then slow. Dazai watched you like a hawk, trying his hardest to get you through it. Ever so slowly, you could feel your heartbeat normalizing, as the man before you shuffled a bit closer.

"That's it, you're gonna be okay, see!" He smiled, ignoring the glass digging into his legs painfully- you smiled though your heavy breathing, nodding quickly.

Slowly, but definitely, your breathing managed to return to normal- Dazai held your hand close to his chest the hold time, keeping a clam expression- he didn't want you to notice the fear and worry pounding in his own heart.

Eventually, as if my a miracle, you returned your heartbeat and breathing to a regular pace, and Dazai gave a huge sigh of relief.

"Ah, you're okay! I knew you'd get through it!" He said, closing his eyes for a second. You couldn't quite pinpoint the emotion in his tone, but when his chestnut eyes fluttered open, you could see the pure happiness within them; he really loved you, you realized, as you smiled back at him.

"T-that was a close one." You replied, voice still raspy, but mostly normal once more.

"It was... Look, I'm glad you're okay... please don't worry me like that again." He said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. You nodded, trying to stand up; Dazai stood with you, stabilizing your wobbling feet.

"As long as you remember my stupid little heart only beats for you"~ you said softly, squeezing his hand. He glanced at you, silent for a second, before his normal grin returned.

"Of course, my lady~ How about we go home and tend to those cuts?" He suggested, to which you pouted.

"Oh, fantastic, a romantic evening of cleaning wounds." You said In a mocking tone.

And so you left, hand in hand, walking down the pavement as dozens of police cars pulled up with sirens wailing loudly; you looked over your shoulder just as they apprehended the mafia member; you poked your tongue out at the man.

And, without waiting for his reaction, you turned back to look forwards, heading home with the man who'd just saved your life- and your heart.
