Chapter 21

I woke up feeling refreshed after my day with Jay. He had informed me that Olive had the baby, but he wouldn’t tell me much else. He said she wanted to tell me to my face, but I didn’t know when I’d be seeing her. No sooner had I sat up in bed than I got a text from Justin.

From Justin: I’m coming in ;)

He used his key to come in and soon enough he was sitting on the foot of my bed. “Hey there cutie pie,” He said, ruffling my messy hair.

“What’s up, buttercup?” I winked, planting a kiss on his soft lips.

“I feel like having a nice brunch at the tearoom, how does that sound?”

I nodded, “Let me just get ready.”

He went to make himself some coffee while I got ready. I took a quick shower to wet my hair and shave my legs, then dried my hair and left it wavy. I put on a floral sundress and some white patent leather flats. I took a swipe of mascara to my eyelashes and dashed out the door to find Justin. When I entered the living room he looked up, “You look perfect.”

            I blushed, “Nothing is perfect.”

“Then you must be ‘nothing’,” he said smoothly, ushering me out the door.

We rode in the back of a stretch limo – a bit excessive for a brunch at the tearoom – and he held the door for me like a true gentleman. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful rope lights strung from the ceiling. The windows were blacked out to make it look like nighttime. The second thing I noticed is that we were the only two people there.

There was a single table with a red rose and a lit candle in the center. “Wow,” I breathed.

“You like it?” he softly whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.

My mouth hung open and all I could do was nod. Justin had to pull me to my seat. A violinist came out and started playing love ballads and for a fleeting moment it stuck me how similar this was to the disastrous date Nathan had planned so long ago. I quickly shook the thought out of my mind.

Justin ordered crumpets with jam and some Earl Grey tea for while we waited for our cucumber sandwiches. I was gazing around the room when Justin’s voice brought me to reality, “You look really beautiful.”
