*Chapter I*

She walked in beauty across the beach in her white tunic. A golden rope was tied around her slim waist and her blonde, wavy hair tussled and tossed in the ocean breeze. The handmade, ankle-high sandals hung from her finger, the finger where the ring was missing. She glanced over her shoulder like someone was following her. Worry and sadness filled her bright blue eyes.

An hour later she reached her domus, a Greek house for the wealthy, in the city of Athens. She walked through the vestibulum of her father's home. All the servants bowed as the young girl strolled towards the tablinum, or study, where Father always was.

"Pirithous, what are you thinking!? Haven't you heard about that young man in the military? The one who murdered....then the gods and military punished him for his actions? What do you think about your actions?" Said a deep male voice from inside the tablinum.

Father irritably replied "yes of course. I must though. For my daughter, Zöe. I can NOT lose her also! I'm already suffering I can't let anything happen to her, Nicholaus."

Zöe was listening in secret outside the door when a servant came to summon Zöe's father, but the servant's brown waist rope knocked over a large flower jar which loudly cracked.

"Pirithous, I must go." Nicholaus said urgently. "Remember what has been done cannot be undone. I wish you well until we meet again."

"Thank you, Nicholaus. I will not forget."
