I can't get over what happened. Every time I fall asleep, I can still see the fear in his eyes. Then the tears in mine. I always wake up screaming in terror. Why couldn't it have been Brandon? I mean sure Jodie would be upset but at least there, someone would be happy. With Alex's death, no one is happy.
Jodie comes into the back with me. "Hey sis, are you ok?" She asks. "Not really." I respond. "Kyara, do you remember when dad first met Alex?" "Yeah, they had an entire conversation about witch video game zombies were the most realistic." I laughed at the thought. "And I remember when you and I first went to Tallahassee to see dad, we were 5 years old and you couldn't pronounce Tallahassee." Jodie said. It's true, I couldn't pronounce it. I like talking with Jodie about our past, it helps distract me from everything. "Hey Joe, do you remember when I moved to Tallahassee with dad once he and mom got divorced." "Yeah I remember that. I was really upset about that." "I know but you loved mom more and I loved dad much more." I went to live with him when I was 7 and stayed with him until high school. Jodie and mom weren't to happy but I was.
After that talk with Joe I finally stopped crying. I've never cried so much at one time in my entire life. I notice Hannah sharpening her knife and giving Herbert the stare down. I ask Brandon to pull the RV over so I could drive and take Herbert up in the passenger seat with me away from Hannah. "Kyara?" "Yeah." "Are you ok?" "Yes, I'm fine now." "Good, I know how hard it is to watch those creatures kill someone you love." "But you said that you didn't know about the apocalypse until your sister bit you." "No, I just said that because I don't like it when people take pity on me. The real story is that my sister and I were walking down the street when we saw a manhole with no cover. She looked down and one of those things grabbed her and dragged her down in the sewer with it's horde and I had to watch her be ripped to shreds." "Oh, then who bit you?" "Just some random chick." I feel so bad for him. To have something like that just come out of the blue. I put my hand on his shoulder telling him that I'm sorry.
I just remembered that I need to call my dad and tell him that we're going to Miami. Cause I know we're gonna make it there. I take my cell phone out of my pocket and dial my dads number. It starts ringing. "I'm sorry but this number has been disconnected." Oh no...
