After school Kate and I met up in Mrs. William's class. We weren't sure how she was going to help, but I was thankful for all the help I could get. I really needed to figure this out.
"Do you think there's anyone who has something against you? Anyone at all for any reason?" Mrs. Williams started.
I thought for a moment. "No I don't really know. I mean I guess there are several people on the team who are jealous that I was captain, but no one that I believe would want to hurt me this bad.
"Interesting. Well, no one you know of. Believe me Sarah, you teens seem to be good at hiding your thoughts and feelings from others." Mrs. Williams replied.
"Well..." Kate interrupted. She had been so quiet I had almost forgotten she was there. "I can think of someone."
"Who?" I almost shouted.
"I hadn't thought of her until now, but there's always Rachel. Think about it. She's the other captain, but you're better between the two of you. She's always second to you. She seemed to know you were getting into trouble before you even had a meeting with coach. She must've known something."
I thought about it for a minute. It made sense. "That's true", I finally replied.
"Do you believe she would've done this?" Mrs. Williams asked.
"I guess it's not completely impossible", I said aloud. I would hope Rachel wouldn't do such a thing to make my life so miserable. We had been best friends when we were younger. But I couldn't throw out the possibility. It did make sense after all.
"I guess the only way to find out is to ask", Mrs. Williams nodded.
I laughed. "You think she'd really just confess?"
"You never know", Mrs. Williams replied.
"Let's go during practice tomorrow", Kate suggested. "When everyone is around. We need to find who did this to you."
I smiled. I was so thankful to have such amazing an amazing best friend and teacher.
I'll be there", Mrs. Williams winked at me.
Kate and I walked to our cars. "Thanks for helping with this. It really means a lot", I told Kate while putting my things into my car.
"Of course, Sarah. No one can hurt you and get away with it on my watch! You're like my sister and I hate seeing you go through this. I know you'd never do this to our team, so we just need to figure out who would." Kate reassured me. "We're going to figure this out."
I gave Kate one last smile and then climbed into my car. I took off down the street to my house.
Once I finally got home I noticed my dad's car still in the driveway. I found it odd that he was still home since I had gotten home so late and he was usually already at work. I figured he would be leaving just as I walked in.But to my surprise he didn't. "Hey, sweetie. How was your day?" he asked as I walked in.
"Ummmm it was good", I replied with confusion laced in my voice. "Uh, no offense dad, but what are you doing here? I mean it's great and all, but shouldn't you be at work?
"Oh yea, I wanted to talk to you guys about that. I was waiting for you to come home", he replied with a smile.
Those words always seem to mean something bad. It's like that for all families, not just us. But when your parents have been waiting to talk to you wouldn't you be worried too?
Okay, what's up?" I asked him.
"Nicole, Chris please come down here", my dad shouted up the stairs.
