"Not what I had in mind..."

Of course, I had to find a job, or else, I wouldn't have anything to support myself on. I was working in my Mom's store. A ladies Boutique. Not my thing, but the best choice at the time. Of course, in this job, I was not allowed to wear my hat, or any of my normal clothes. I was wearing a garish green sundress, and my hair was pulled back nicely, something that was alien to me. I hated this overall, I was surrounded by frilly dresses, and necklaces, and a whole bunch of other things I knew I would rather die before I wear. My mind was abuzz, and I was locked in a trance of misery. Another person walked in, along with their gaggle of people. I recognized the person, and their group. Tiffany Roberts. The person I most and least expected to see in my Mom's store. Tiffany came striding up to the counter.
"Didn't expect to see you here, Alex" she spat my name as if she had just tasted something extremely sour. The closer she got to me, the more caked on make up I could detect on her face. I ignored her. She had been in the "popular" group in my college, and had managed to bully me to the point where I was the shyest person in the entire school.
"I said something! Don't ignore me!" She spat, in her exaggerated, dramatic voice.
I sighed.
"I know you heard me Alex!" She spat. "Why aren't you on some failed adventure?" That set me off. I wasn't going to let her boss me around.
"Why do you care?" I said quietly, trying to hide my rage.
"Because I need to know everything that goes on around here." She stated, obviously trying to keep her cool. Now I really wanted to punch her, right in her make up encrusted face. The door opened again, and the bell emitted a light tinkling noise. The atmosphere crackled with electric sparks of anger and annoyance.
"What's with the bandage on your arm? Fall down the stairs?" She sneered.
"Shut up." I said quietly, as the bell in the shop rung again. This time, I looked to see who had entered the shop. Skyler. My best friend since kindergarten. Even though we had each gone to different high schools and colleges, we were the best of friends.
"Hi Skyler." I said, and Tiffany whirled around. Skyler was the only person who could stand up to Tiffany and her demanding nature.
"Ugh. This store is way overpriced anyway!" Complained Tiffany, and she strode out.
"As if anything could be overpriced for her. Anyway, what did you do to your arm?" She asked.
"Oh, that. I really don't know." I said, and checked my watch. My shift was over.
"Wanna go for lunch?" I asked.
"Sure, and I'm paying." She insisted.
