I gave a throaty laugh,"Really funny Adonia,"

I frowned as I stared at the bound leather in my hand. It had a damp earthy smell to it as if I had found it buried under some dirt, even though I had found it an old box on top of a drawer. The pages didn't even look crumpled or aged or thinned even though I could see water marks on the pages and washed off ink as if my great grandfather had spilled some water on it. It didn't have a layer of dust on it either, which was odd as the box that it was kept on had so much dust over it that I had sneezed when I got near it. Damn allergies.

I smell his power.

What?

You heard me. His powers on the book. I smell it.

You mean the earthy smell?

No Atalanta, that is another smell, it looks someone had picked up your precious little diary before you got there and flipped through it when it was raining a few days ago I can smell the person's power on it too. It's really really strong but I think he or she was restraining it. Whoever was flipping through this book seems to know that you were going to read it. Check if there are any missing pages, anything ripped off, marker or pen crossings, anything that doesn't quite seem to fit.

I skimmed through the pages to stop somewhere near the end where I could make out torn pages.

Looks like I was right. They're only letting you read what they want you to read.

How can you smell their power?

Adonia sighed, That's another story for another day Atalanta, but I'll tell you this. The book kind of sucks in the powers of supers if they hold it. Kind of like an identification device in case someone ever reads this, like an easier way besides checking fingerprints. I can smell them because Ghosts like me have that power. You προπαππούς (propappoús)must have had this ability as well

So my power is all over it now?

Yes.

I nodded, I had no intention of putting it back anyway.

I still think you're one of them though. I mean... come on!

What if that's what the person who ripped off one of the pages wanted me to think?

What if he/she's a good guy?

I don't know Adonia....

Fine...let's talk about something else.

3rd person's POV

As Atalanta was deep in thought, she didn't notice the two figures watching her invisibly from the corner of her bedroom. Their eyes fixated on her head as they listened to her private conversation with her ghost guardian. Both of them smiled as their plan started falling into shape.

Heya! I know it's been a long time but I was pretty stuck on this chapter.

I had absolutely no idea where it should lead to and seemed like pretty much a dead end.

questions:

Who are the two? Do they know Atalanta? Do you think they're enemies or friends?
