I slid on my penguin slippers across the floor in Blockbuster, almost falling on my ass. I giggled and grabbed a pole to steady myself.
"Be careful, Cole," Cerise said, looking at me irritatingly. I stuck my tongue out at her. "I'm never gonna be able to explain it to dad if you die."
I rolled my eyes at her. "I'm not gonna die."
"You remember what happened last winter? When you slipped on the ice and just about cracked your head open," she laughed and grabbed a movie. "Do you want to just watch scary movies?"
I nodded and held up Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
"We've watched that so much though Colette," she said, grabbing The Nightmare On Elm Street. I shrugged and held onto it. We continued walking around the video store and people looked at us like we were weird. Mostly because Cerise was wearing full out heels and looking all sassy, and I was wearing a small, tight, cut-up t-shirt, sweats, and slippers with my hair up in a messy bun. "Have you ever seen this?" Rise asked, holding up some weird possession like movie as the bell by the door rang and the sweetest noise I've ever heard rang through the store. A velvet laugh. His laugh. Cerise looked over at him and smiled as I dropped. "Colette, what are you doing?"
I crawled the other way from where he was walking. "He can't see me like this."
"Who's that girl he's with?" She asked and I immediately stopped, peaking through shelves to see him and a white and black haired girl. I couldn't see her face but I knew who she was instantly.
"That's Franccesca," I said, continuing to crawl. "The bassist for his band. I don't know what she's doing here. She lives in LA."
"She's really pretty," Cerise said, staring.
"Stop looking at her or you’re gonna make her look over here and then Kuza will come over here," I said, crawling towards the counter. "Are we done?"
"No! We only have two movies!" She said, saying it a little too loudly. Franccesca and Kuza both looked over and Kuza grinned and started toward us. I booked it, crawling away like babies do when they're trying to get away from their parents.
All of the sudden someone stepped in front of me and I ran into their legs. I groaned in annoyance and said back on my heels, looking up and seeing his face. I bit my lip. This was a weird angle, and the way he was looking at me made me squirm.
"Why are you running from me?" He asked, arching an eyebrow up at me. I bit my lip a little harder.
"Why are you following me?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at him. A sinister grin spread across his face and I gawked at him. Hot breath was at me ear immediately.
"Get off your knees Colette, people think you're gonna do something to him," Rise said in my ear. I glanced around and noticed people looking at us then looking away. She held her hand out for me and I grabbed it and stumbled to my feet, my eyes connecting with Kuza's immediately. I was right, he towered over me.
"Jesus Christ you're short," he said with a more innocent grin. I smiled back and looked at my penguin slippers. I felt eyes on me and I looked over to meet Franccesca's friendly gaze. She was smiling.
"You must be Colette," she said holding her hand out to me. I shook it.
"Pleasure to meet you," I said, still smiling, then set my sights on Kuza. "You've been talking about me?"
He shrugged and looked nervous and shy. It was so cute. He looked back up at me, his white contact eyes feeling once again like they could see into my soul. "What're you gonna watch?"
"Horror movies," I answered, smiling up at him.
"Which one?" He asked, eagerly.
"Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
He smiled back at me. "Good choice."
I nodded and heard Franccesca and Cerise fall into a conversation. We stood there quiet for a few moments then Mike leaned forward towards my ear. "I have something I want to talk to you about."
"Like?" I asked. He looked at Franccesca and Rise, whom were still deep in conversation, and started to walk away. I followed behind him. He ducked behind a row so they couldn't see us.
"A friend of mine is throwing a party, and I wanted to see if maybe, you wanted to go with me?" He said, a little skeptical.
I rose an eyebrow at him. "You couldn't ask over there?" He looked down at his feet, shy again. I smiled and bit my lip. "Of course I'll go with you."
He smiled and pulled me into a tight hug. I was a little shocked. After a few minutes he stepped back and we started to walk back to the other girls, and they didn't even notice we were gone.
Their conversation came to an end soon and Kuza and Franccesca started to leave.
"I'll text you," Kuza called to me and then he was gone, and I was left standing next to Cerise, grinning like an idiot.
