This entire story is a trigger warning, just saying. Sorry m80s, I'm good at writing sad things.
Anything in italics is something said in English, seeing that they all speak Japanese.
Anyways, on with the show.
__________________I threw my sunglasses on my face as the sun set in my eyes. I spent most of my day doing my usual routine, staring at the water below the bridge, watching my Karamatsu Girls walk by, then heading over to Chibita's oden shop and make light conversation. But now it's time to return to my abode, and put up with the five demons I live with.
I kicked the door to the side and saw my brothers sitting around the kotatsu, doing their own thing.
"I have returned home, my brothers!" I exclaimed, but only to get waved off. I grumbled and sat down on the couch, opposite of Ichimatsu, who was playing with his cat.
"Mind if I use your sunglasses?" He mumbled. I looked at him, and a wide smile covered my face.
"Not at all, little brother! Use them at your pleasure!" I handed them over and he snatched them out of my hand, not even offering a 'thank you,' then proceeded to use them to play with his cat. I watched with a slightly shocked expression as the cat shattered them.
"Good boy," Ichimatsu muttered out. I sighed and picked up my wallet, knowing he wasn't going to pay for new ones.
"Empty," I thought to myself. I mean, I wasn't surprised. We are just shitty NEETs after all, why would I always have spare money? Osomatsu probably took my money again and used it at the race track. I threw my wallet back where it was and sat down with a newspaper. Just as I started to get comfortable, the kerosene heater shut off.
"Oi, Karamatsu. Go refill the kerosene. It's cold." Choromatsu spoke up. I looked up.
"I filled it up last time! You do it if it's bothering you so much."
"It's not, but all the places under the kotatsu are taken and you're gonna get cold eventually, so you might as well go."
"Why not have Jyushimatsu do it? He's not under the kotatsu either."
"He's asleep, Shittymatsu." Ichimatsu grumbled. I just sighed and rolled my eyes, lifting myself off of the ground.
"Finally..." Someone whispered under their breath. I threw my coat on and walked outside, the cold air snatching the breath from my lungs. I took a deep breath and picked up the kerosene gallon.
"Empty?!" I groaned to myself. I trudged out into the street as the chilled wind blew against my face. I lifted my scarf up over my nose and squinted against the gust. Where was this gas station anyways?
"Hey, pretty boy," I heard a slurred voice from behind. I lifted my head and looked behind me and saw three tall, strong-looking men from behind. I looked forward and saw Chibita's house close by, then looked back at the men. Should I make a break for it?
"What do you want?" I snapped back at him. He just snickered. They were a good few meters away, but I could smell the alcohol drenching them. I thought I got used to the smell by now, but I guess not.
"Hey, woah! We just wanna talk, don't act all tough!" Another said, approaching me. I took a defensive step back as they all got closer. I held onto the kerosene gallon tightly, my knuckles turning a pale shade.
"You wouldn't happen to have any money on you, would ya?"
"No! Back off!" My voice was dripping with venom. It probably wasn't a good time to use English, but whatever.
"Oh? What are you gonna do about it?" One said, shoving me to the ground forcefully. I yelped as something dug into my thigh, but didn't take my eyes off the men. I let out another yelp as I received a foot to the face. Why am I not getting back up? Why am I not fighting back? Where's my spirit? What's wrong with me?
The bitter taste of copper filled my mouth, and I felt the blood run out in a stream. But yet, my mind told me not to fight back. I just didn't have the spirit and body to.
"Aww, what's the matter? Afraid to fight?" I shouted as another foot collided with my face. I felt hot tears forming in my eyes, but I didn't fight them back when they threatened to fall.
I heard them all laugh as they surrounded me. I just closed my eyes and thought of everyone who would miss me if I didn't make it out of this situation alive. Why isn't anyone popping into my brainpan?
"I like this scarf. I want it." I felt the scarf tighten around my neck, and for a second, I didn't react.
Wait a minute, what am I doing?! I don't want to die! My Karamatsu Girls need me!
I quickly loosened the scarf and leaped to my feet. The men started snickering, until I punched one in the face. He fell backwards, spitting out a gross mixture of blood and saliva. He slowly looked up at me.
"Scarf. Now." I growled. I thrashed about like a wild animal as the two others grabbed my arms and held them. I yelled out swear after swear at them, trying with all my might to escape, but to no avail. I felt my body starting to get tired, but my adrenaline kicked in and sent a surge of energy through my muscles. I slammed into the men and yelled as loud as I could, hopefully loud enough to wake Chibita. I was momentarily silenced as a fist slammed straight into my chest. I heard a snapping noise resonate internally, but if there was any pain, I wasn't feeling it. I resumed my yelling, and immediately regretted my decision. All three of them started beating down on me. Punching me, kicking me, pulling my hair, everything. I felt sleep starting to overwhelm me, but I refused to let it consume me.
"Tch, let's go. He's got nothing."
I watched as he threw my scarf over my face and walk away with his friends. Everything seemed so quiet now. I panted and wiped the sweat from my forehead. As my adrenaline rush faded, pain started to set in. I let out a steady scream as my brain registered the broken bone and the bruises and gashes all over my body. I rolled over on my side (the one without the broken bone, of course), and started to pull myself towards Chibita's door. My vision progressively started to fade as I got closer.
"Come on, Karamatsu. You can do it," I motivated myself as best as I could, and it seemed to work for a minute. I pushed myself up the steps, and wiped the blood that was running from my nose to my mouth with the back of my hand. I propped myself up and started banging on the door as hard as I could.
"Chibita!" I called out. My voice was starting to fade. I called a few more times until I couldn't yell anymore. I felt so sleepy, I lay my head down on my arm and stared at the kerosene gallon next to the puddle of blood, along with the staggered trail that was leading to my position. I looked up as the front door slid open.
"Karamatsu?!" Chibita's muffled voice entered my ears. I looked up at him and snapped my fingers.
"H-Hey, Chibita. Look what the cat drug in..." I gave one last smirk before I was consumed in darkness.
