The Princess and the Commoner

Chapter 1: The Beginning

In the beginning, there was a small village called Fiore that had no kingdom or royalty. But a woman named Anna Heartfilia build a castle near the poor town and ruled them. The people loved their queen and their village grew to be one of the most famous towns. Anna married and ruled the kingdom happily for 400 years. And soon, Layla Heartfilia took the throne and ruled the town with her husband Jude. After 4 years, Layla gave birth to a baby girl named Lucy Heartfilia. The three lived a good life in their castle, until that fateful night...Lucy was 5 years old when her parents were killed. But for some reason, the assassin spared Lucy's life and left her with the bodies of her dead parents.

It had been 10 years since the death of Layla and Jude Heartfilia and Lucy had been sneaking out of the castle during the night to explore the town of Fiore. She had made a lot of friends in a guild called Fairy Tail. Everyone there didn't care that she was a princess, they didn't ever treat her like a princess. They treated her like a normal person and she loved that about them. So she visited every day, hoping that one day, she would be able to live a normal life, not as a princess.

Lucy walked into the guild and everyone looked to her and smiled. Lucy's blue haired friend ran up to her and tackled her with a hug,

"Hey Lucy! How has life in the castle been? Anything fun happen or is it all boring papers that you need to fill out?" Lucy rolled her eyes and smiled,

"I told you a dozen times Levy, I don't need to do that kind of stuff. All I need to do is look pretty and pretend that I have perfect control of my country." Levy laughed and pulled away from Lucy,

"Yeah I know. I was just kidding. Hey, have you seen our new member yet? You should really meet her!" Lucy smiled and followed Levy who was now dragging her over to a corner of the guild.

"Wendy! This is Lucy, you know the one that I've been telling you about?" A girl with blue hair looked up from her conversation and smiled at Lucy,

"It's a pleasure to meet you Lucy. And I've heard that you're a princess, right?" Lucy smiled and nodded, 

"Yeah, that's me." Wendy smiled and stood up, 

"It was very nice to meet you Lucy, but I need to get going, I have somewhere I need to be." Lucy smiled and nodded, 

"It was nice to meet you too Wendy." Wendy turned and waved as she walked away. Levy smiled back at Wendy and turned back to Lucy, 

"Lucy? Have you heard that someone has been stealing from the people in Fiore?" Lucy looked at Levy in shock, 

"No I haven't. Do you know his name?" Levy nodded and motioned for Lucy to come closer, 

"His name is Natsu Dragneel." Lucy pulled back with her eyes wide in shock. 

"Are you serious? I would have never guessed that he would be here. Hopefully him or Zeref won't try to cause trouble..." Levy looked at Lucy in confusion, 

"What are you talking about? And who's Zeref?" Lucy put her hand behind her head in embarrassment,

"Sorry, I'm used to people knowing what I'm talking about...But Zeref Dragneel is the king of the Kingdom Tartaros and he is...lets say a bad king. He dosen't take care of his people and he conquers and destroys other kingdoms in order to become feared." Levy nodded her head in thought, 

"Yeah, I thought that the name rung a bell. I've heard the name Zeref before and that he's been ruling his kingdom for the past 400 years." Lucy nodded her head, 

"Yes, he's found a way to live forever so that he could stay in control of his kingdom forever."

"So who exactly is Natsu Dragneel?"

"He's Zeref's younger brother. I heard that he got exiled from Tartaros a few years ago because he was trying to get rid of Zeref and now he's just a normal person, unable to become the next ruler of his kingdom. Nobody has heard of him for a few years and everyone thought that he had died somehow."

"Well, he's here now and there's nothing we can do about it." Lucy heard commotion coming from outside and she rushed over to see what was going on. Lucy looked around and saw a bunch of guards looking around for someone. Then, a man with pink hair burst out of one of the barrels and sprinted down the road. Their eyes met and the man smirked at Lucy. He was wearing white, loose fitting pants, a red t-shirt over a black long sleeved shirt, and a white scaled scarf around his neck. 

"You thief! Come back here!" The man turned to the guards, did a salute to Lucy and ran off again. 

"Natsu Dragneel..." Lucy looked at him as he ran and saw something blue flying alongside him. "I wonder what that is..."

Levy nudged Lucy and grinned, 

"That was Natsu Dragneel. Almost every girl is dying for his attention. And I think you fell for the looks too..." Lucy blushed furiously and shook her head, 

"No, no, no! You've got it all wrong! I was just observing him." Levy nodded in disbelief, 

"Yeah, sure..."
