*Addison*
"God I hope Elizabeth is okay. She looked so scared when we got close to her house. I think I should check up on her. Yeah. I'm going to right now."

"Addison stop worrying about her so much. You just met her today and you act like you've known her longer than me. We are going to see her tomorrow. Just ask her then."

"But what if she's hurt? Leah I mean I know that we will see her tomorrow but what if something happens to her without me knowing?"

"You sound like you're her girlfriend or something. Just calm down. I'm your best friend not her. When have I ever steered you wrong?"

"All the time actually... I can't help but think about her. I mean you haven't even met her yet. You haven't seen her when she isn't shy. I have and I also got to see her when she was deathly afraid of something."

"Okay. She said she didn't want her father to see you guys so maybe she isn't allowed to have friends. Don't you think she'll be in more trouble if you show up all of the sudden asking for her? You just met her today there is absolutely no way you could care about her that much already."

"Yeah I guess you're right. I don't know why I'm so worried. I just met her, and yet I can't stop thinking about her."

"Maybe you love her" Leah started to laugh, making kissy noises through the phone at me. "I mean you have a boyfriend so just think about Jake. I've got to go. If you need to talk anymore just call me again okay?"

"Yeah okay. See you tomorrow." I hung up on her. My head still swam with thoughts of Elizabeth. What if I do love her? I mean I know I love Jake, but when Elizabeth looked up at me for the first time it felt like I couldn't breath, and when she smiled at me I felt like that's all I ever needed to see, and I did everything I could to make her smile more. I've never felt like this for anyone. Not even Jake.

"Addison dinner's ready!"

"Coming mom!" I went down stairs seeing that my parents had already set the table. "Mom you could have called me sooner. I would have helped set the table."

"I know but you were on the phone with Leah and I didn't want to interrupt. Now come sit down so we can pray."

I slipped into my spot at the table and reached for my parents hands. My Dad started the prayer "Lord thank you for this meal and for my wonderful family. And please give Addison all of the luck you can spare for her softball tryouts in three weeks. Amen."

"Amen" my mom and I said in unison. My parents began to eat, but I found it was hard to concentrate. I don't want Elizabeth to be in any danger.

"Addison honey what's wrong." I look up to see my parents looking at me. Confusion on their faces.

"I guess I'm just nervous for tryouts. I know that I'm good but there are a lot of good people trying out. What if I don't make it."

"You will make it. You are a great player and The Lord will give you the luck you need to make the team."

"Thanks Dad. Can I be excused? I'll wrap up my leftovers and eat them later if I'm hungry."

With a nod from my Dad I quietly get up from the table and took care of my dinner. I told my parents goodnight and went back up to my room. When I got to my room I flopped onto my bed. I looked at my clock. It was only 8:00 but I was so ready to go to bed. I was excited and scared for tomorrow. Actually don't know what to think about tomorrow. I was so caught up in my thoughts that by the time I feel asleep it was 12:00pm.

I woke up at 6:00 the next morning feeling more tired than I've been in my entire life. I dragged myself out of bed and got into the shower, trying to wake myself up, but then everything that happened yesterday came rushing back into my memory. I rinsed off my body, got out of the shower, and got dressed. I rushed downstairs to grab a quick breakfast before school. As soon as I got done eating and was about to walk out the door, my mom came downstairs.

"You're leaving already?" She looked at the clock "It's only 6:30 you're going to be at school really early. What's the rush?"

I glanced from the door to her "I have to make sure someone is okay."

"Who is it that you're worried about?"

"There is a new girl at school and I drove her home yesterday. I wanted to make sure nothing went wrong."

"You just dropped her off. What could have went wrong? Why do you think that's something did?"

"She looked so scared mom. As soon as we got close to her house her face went pale and she went quiet. I just want to make sure that nothing happened after I left."

"Why would she be afraid? It's nice of you to care about her but what if nothing's wrong? Maybe she forgot her homework at school or something." I tried to disagree with her but she started up again "Don't worry to much honey. I'm sure she's fine. What's her name?"

"Elizabeth. May I go to school now?"

"I guess. I'll see you when you get home. I love you."

"I love you too. Bye." I turned around and ran out the door, slamming it shut behind me. I sprinted to my car and started it up. I reversed out of my driveway and headed over to Elizabeth's house. Maybe I could give her a ride to school. Then I could ask her again why she was scared.

Just as I was about to get to her house I saw her already on her way to school. I slowed down and pulled over in front of her.

"Hey Liz! Want a ride to school?"

Even from here I could see her tense up. Even though she had her head down I can't help but feel that she's scared, and it looks as if she is debating wether or not to come with me. "Don't you live closer to the school than I do? Why are you down this way?"

"I was going to pick you up at your house. But I saw you walking so I stopped." She won't look at me. Her head has been down the entire time we have been talking. "Liz why won't you look at me?" She shrugged her shoulders; head still down. "Elizabeth what's wrong? Look at me."

She finally looked up at me. When she did I automatically burst into tears. Her face was all cut up and bruised, her lip was split and bleeding, and her eye was swelled shut. She ran towards me and hugged me. Which made me cry even more because she was the one that is hurt, yet she is trying to comfort me. I should be the one comforting her. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tighter.

"Elizabeth what happened? Please tell me what happened to you after I dropped you off?" I pulled away from her and lightly touched her bruises. "Please tell me."

"I can't. I'm sorry. Come on we are going to be late for school."

"We can skip. You don't have to go to school."

"I'm going to school."

"Why?"

"Because I'm not going to let this stop me from making a better future for myself." I looked her in the eye once more. Seeing determination in her eyes. So I just turned away and walked to my car.

When I turned back around she was still standing in the same place I left her. "Well are you coming or not?" A smile spread across her face and she got into my car. It was quiet all the way to school, but she still kept her head up the whole way and gave me a polite smile whenever I looked over at her.

Once we got to school she put her head down and went to walk inside "Wait... Are you still going to play ball with us after school?"

"Of course! I told you I would. Except this time I wouldn't take no for an answer." She turned around and started to walk inside. I slowly followed her in. What did she mean by she wouldn't take no for an answer?
