"I can't stand to look in this mirror anymore" I whispered quietly to myself. I've always had a hard life. Being as shy as I am and living in California, i'm surprised they haven't kicked me out yet. Don't get me wrong, I had my ONE friend. But here, that was just unacceptable. Here, just because you got good grades, stayed out of trouble, and didn't talk... you were alien.

I ran downstairs to eat my breakfast and head to the hell hole also known as school.

"Good morning, Honey! How did you sleep?" My Mom half sung when I walked into the kitchen. That's another thing that has always haunted me. I couldn't tell my Mom my own problems. Someone as beautiful, talented, and social as her would be ashamed to have a daughter like me. I usually just ended up telling her complete lies as to how fantastic my life was.

"Morning, Mom. And great as always!" I replied back with my now surprisingly convincing untruth.

"that's good to hear! But i have to run Courtney. Say hi to everyone for me! Love you!"

"Love you too, Mom. I'll say hi to my friends for you." Ha, friends. Yeah, all one of them.

As I approached the school, my bestfriend Trina came running up to me. If there is one thing about Trina I envy, it's everything about her. Her brown hair is elegant without her even trying. She's fit, smart, and everything I wish to be. The only thing that doesn't make sense about her is why she is friends with me... but I wouldn't change it for the world. She makes dealing with everything, easier. She brings me out of my shell.

"Courtney, I have a question for you!" She said in her cheery voice.

I just laughed, her questions were always so interesting. "Yes?" I replied back with a raise of my brow.

"You weren't thinking about going to boring ol' school were you?"

"Um, Trina.. I don't skip." Perfect attendance every year i've been in school actually. Another reason I have one friend.

"Well since your birthday is in 3 days.. you can break that" she smiled coyly, "We are going shopping! My treat!"

Honestly, I had completely forgot about my birthday. Not because i'm ignorant, just nobody cares anyway. So why should I?

"Trina, I don't know... You know how I feel ab---"

"No we are going. you are my best friend and I want to celebrate with you!"

"Fine, but only because you are so persistant." I jokingly said back.

"Oh at least give it a shot! You never know what surprising things could happen!"

And boy was she right.
