Once I was back at training camp to help train the new incoming soldiers.
"Sky! How was your day off?" I heard a British voice say. I knew who that voice belonged to it was one of my friends Peggy Carter.
"Peggy hi! It was was nice. How was it here?"
"It was good. Boring without another girl but good. Are you ready to help train some soldiers?" Peggy asks me grinning.
"I call punching someone if I can."
~~~"Recruits attention!" Peggy says while walking up to the line of men. "I'm agent Carter and this is Sargent Tomlinson. We supervise all action in this devision."
"What's with the accent? I thought I was signing up for the U.S. army?" A man in line says to Peggy. I decided to walk up to him.
"What's your name solider?" I ask him.
"Gilmore Hodge."
"Step forward. Put your right foot forward." I say while Peggy hands out the sheets the others need to fill out.
"Are we going to wrestle? Cause I have a few moves I know you'll like." He said while winking at me. Ugh what a perv. I just about had enough of him. I then decide to punch him right in the face he has no right to talk to a women like that.
"Sargent Tomlinson!" I heard a voice behind me say.
"Colonel Phillips." I say while saluting.
"Glad to see that you're breaking in the recruits." He said while walking towards us. "That's good. Get your ass up out of the dirt and stand in that line at attention until someone comes and gets you and tells you what to do."
"Yes sir."
"Patton once said that war is fought with weapons but won by men. We are going to win this won because we have the best men." Colonel Phillips pause for a second and looks at a short skinny recruit. I had to take a second look to make sure I knew what I was seeing. I was seeing Steve. I knew that he could do it. Colonel continues on with his speech. "And because they are going to get better. Much much better. The S.S.R is an ally effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Their goal is to create a whole army of super soldiers. But every army starts with one man. At the end of this week we will choose that one man. He will be the first of the new breed of super soldiers and they will personally escort Hitler into the gates of hell."
~~~"I remember when I had to do that."
"Do what?" Peggy asks.
"Running. It was pure hell. Just watching them makes me feel out of breath." Peggy rolls her eyes at me and laughs. "Here they come." I say looking over my shoulder.
"Hold it. This flag marks the half way point. Who ever grabs the flag and brings it to me will get a ride back with agent Carter and Sargent Tomlinson." Once the men heard that they all try to climb the flag pole. "That's enough fall back in line." Then all fell back in line except one. Steve. "Rogers I said fall back." But instead of going in line he walks up to the flag pole and pulled out the two poles that were keeping it up. He walks over and grabs the flag.
"Thank you sir." Steve say handing off the flag and getting into the car. I turn around and smile at Steve and he smiles back. Peggy starts the car and drives off leaving the rest of the men to run back to camp.
~~~"Faster ladies come on!" Peggy yells to the men who are all doing push ups. I look over and see Steve struggling. I felt bad for him. "My grandmother can do better that that. God rest her soul. Move it." Peggy continues. "Up. Jumping jacks!"
"Grenade!" Colonel Phillips yells. All the men move out of the way. I went to cover it but Steve beats me to it.
"Get out of the way! Move! Get back!" He yells to us but it never goes off. "Is this a test?" Steve asks looking up at Colonel Phillips.
~~~I knock on the door to Steves cabin. "Can I come in?" I asks.
"Yeah of course." Steve says.
"I know we haven't talked a lot while you been here but I wanted to ask you how you were doing. So how are you doing?" I ask him.
"Good. Nervous for tomorrow."
"You'll do fine." I say smiling at him.
"Why would they pick me though. There are plenty of other men here who have been doing better than me. So why me?" Steve asks.
"Steve you have something those other men don't have. You have heart. Your also smart. I knew right away they were going to pick you. You didn't let any obstacle stop you from joining the army. You did something I never seen. You got the flag. You were smart and took the flag pole down instead of trying to climb it. You risked your own life and put your body over a grenade. Real or not you did that. While everyone else was running trying to get out of the way. That's why they picked you." I said trying to raise his confidence a little more.
Steve had a little blush forming on his cheeks and so did I. I was leaning in and so was he. But a knock at the door interrupted us."May I? Oh am I interrupting something?" Dr. Erskine asks.
"No nothing at all I was just leaving. Good night Steve see you tomorrow." I say as a blush was appearing on my cheeks yet again. "Doctor." I nod towards Erskine.
"Sargent Tomlinson." He says while nodding back. I rush out of the room. Once the door was closed I started to lean back on it thinking of the past events that happened and what almost took place. It made me realize one thing.
I have a crush on Steve Rogers.
