"Braelynn, wake up!"
"Wake up already!"
"You're going to be late."
"Come on, it's your first day of school!"
"Braelynn Michaels!"
"Wake up!"
Oh dearest mother, if you knew anything about me, then you would already know it takes a lot more than that to get me out of bed each morning. Oh well, she'll just have to figure that out on her own. After a few more minutes of the knocking, I heard the click of heels against the hardwood floors, indicating that my mother had finally left. I rolled over with a sigh and quickly fell back asleep.
The next time I woke up, my clock read 6:43. My bus leaves at 7. I jump up quickly and rub my eyes, making sure I read the clock right. Yup- 6:43. I run to my closet and pick out the first thing I find: a black skirt and a short sleeved white shirt. I run into the bathroom and change quickly before putting on a bit of makeup. I brush my teeth quickly also. I braid my hair and then I'm done.
Once I'm down the stairs I pull on my black flats and grab an apple, my book bag, house keys, and I walk out the door. I jog until I reach my bus stop at the top of the hill. Out of breath, I lean over a bit, panting. Just then, the bus pulls over to the curb and opens its yellow doors, letting the crowd of high school students inside. I'm -of course- last. I pick a seat in the middle and sit down, putting my bag next to me. The bus pulls away from the curb slowly, making its way to Oakdale High.

"Bye Ma!" I yell as I exit through the front door. "Bye Quinn! Love ya!" My mother calls back. I close the door behind me after replying with a "love you". I then begin to walk to my bus stop. Unfortunately, my car broke down yesterday so it's currently in the shop. With a sigh, I take a sip of my tea. Finally, I make it up to my bus stop and see the bus just opening its doors. I get on, making my to the very last seat in the back. My good friend Gage sat down in the seat across from me. He asks me, "Hey what extra class did you pick this year?" "Photography."

"Photography." I finish. "I didn't know you chose photography this year. Me too!" My best friend, Molly, squeals. I laugh at her. "Yeah me neither!" All of a sudden, her laughter stops and she grabs a hold of my arm. "Gage." She says simply. I nod and look over to my left, where the two most popular boys in my school stood, laughing together. Quinten Reed and Gage Collins.
Last year, Gage and Molly dated for about a month. He broke up with her and unfortunately Molly is still, well, heartbroken. The next thing that happened really caught me off guard. Even with my deadly glare and Molly's sad face he still had the nerve to start walking over towards us. "Molly-" Gage began. "Please, do us all a favor and save it." I say. He looks shocked for a moment before regaining composure. "Look, can I just talk to Molly alone for a minute? I swear I won't try anything." Gage looks between Molly and I. I look at her. She nods and I walk away, heading down to my first class of the year. Finally, it's the end of the day. Once I enter the room for photography class I take a seat near the front. After about 5 minutes everyone is in class. The teacher introduces herself and all that before giving us our assignment. "So, today we'll be going outside." She starts. A few people groan. "Cameras are up front in this box. I will be pairing you guys up. You and your partner will be taking up to 3-5 photos outside and trying to see who can draw them the best."
After she calls a few people I hear my name. "Braelynn and Quinten." She says. I freeze. Quinten is already next to me in the blink of an eye. "I'll go get a camera." He says and walks a few feet to the camera box, picking one out and walking back over to my seat. I quickly snap out of my trance and stand up. "Okay let's go then."
"So, Braelynn, what do you want to start with?" Quinten asks me. "The tree." I say and point ahead. There stands a beautiful magnolia tree. He nods. We walk over to the tree and Quinten bends down a bit to get a better angle. He clicks the button on the camera and takes a photo. It actually looks pretty good.
Next he hands me the camera. We take 3 photos before heading back inside and start drawing all of our photos. We work in complete silence. Then, with about 10 minutes of class remaining, we finally finish. After we decide who's look better, we decide to talk. "Hey, would you possible want to-" Quinten starts but is cut off by the bell. I wave to him and grab my stuff before heading to my locker.
"How was photography?" Molly asks me, looking much happier than this morning. "Good. What happened to you? You're glowing!" I ask. She smiles a bit and looks down. "You're not gonna be too happy." She says. I furrow my eyebrows. "Why?" I question. She gulps and smiles sheepishly. "Gage may or may not have invited on a date tonight to try and patch things up a bit. And I may or may not have accepted the offer." She replies. I smile. "As angry that I am that he hurt you, I'm happy. I know you really like him." I say and give Molly a hug. "Have fun." She nods. "Of course. Thank you, Braelynn." I smile again before giving a small wave and walking off.
I'm halfway to the front doors before I'm stopped by a familiar male voice. "Braelynn!" I hear behind me. When I turn around, I see Quinten waving his arm. I wave back. "Hey." I say. "Hey." He replies. "So, I was wondering if you would care to join me and a few friends tonight around 5." He offers. "I don't know..." I say with a smirk. "Please!" Quinten begs me. I nod and laugh. "Okay. See you tonight then." "Yeah. I'll pick you up?" He asks. I nod. "Sure." "Can I have your number then. You know, just t-to get your uh address a-and stuff?" He asks me nervously. "Okay." I say before reciting my phone number as he puts the digits into his phone. By now we're outside.
"Alright. See you tonight." He says. "Yup. Bye, Quinten." I say. "Bye, Braelynn." Quinten days before giving me a kiss on the cheek and leaving me standing there, as red as a tomato, in the autumn breeze, wondering what I've gotten myself into.
