Chapter 3

- - -

When I first saw Robert in Westlake's hallways, I knew one thing.

He. Was. A. Dead. Meat. Or man, in his case. Sure, there were girls- who didn't care if he was from the rival school- giggling or giddy at the sight of him. And of course, there were guys who hated him.

When he told me he'd tell me why he's here in Westlake on lunch time, he was still smily and all those. But now? Now, he was scowling. Why? I don't know.

''So, are you going to tell me why you're here? We don't have all lunch, you know.'' I said cheekily.

He scowled. ''Fine. I may or may not have pantsed some guy in year nine because he made fun of a girl in year eight. But no one cares about what really happened right? Turns out, the mom of the best friend of the guy I pantsed was the secretary of the school. They twisted the story up, so here I am.''

''Seriously?'' I asked, laughing.

Robert only gave me a look of blank stare. I take it he didn't want to leave Pineview. Especially to its rival school, Westlake.

''Hey, you do know me, so at least they won't look at you like you're some sort of meat!'' I tried to cheer him up.

In the end, I shrugged it off. Whenever I tried to talk to Robert about something, he'd give me a blank stare or a nod. He'll make friends with the jocks anyway. He won't need you. That's a fact.

I was walking to the library when a hand stopped me. It was Robert's. ''Where are you going?''

Bipolar. That was one word to describe him.

''Library. You weren't replying to me, so I decided to spend my lunch time alone.''

He sighed. ''Yeah, I haven't been a good friend, have I? I'm sorry, I'm just really stressed. I miss Pineview. I miss my friends. Of all the schools my mom could have enrolled me in to, it had to be Pineview's rival school.''

''I wouldn't know how it feels to miss a friend, or friends, in that case because I don't really have any.''

''You have me.'' He smiled.

''I know, and I'll be grateful for that. Always.'' I smiled back.

''So, lead the way.'' He smirked.

''If you don't mind me asking, how does your, uh, boyfriend feel about this?'' I asked while leading the way to the library. He was right beside me so my voice was really soft.

''He's actually changing schools. He will attend Pineview tomorrow.''

''What? For real?''

''Yes. I'm quite excited for you guys to meet. You've met my girl friends and now you have to meet Finn!''

I laughed nervously. Another person to be friends with! Yeah, not that great.

''I know what you're thinking.'' He gave me a look.

''Wha-''

''Don't what me.'' He interrupted. ''I can see what you feel just by looking at your face. You have to learn how to control it. You're an open book.''

''Gee, thanks.'' I pretended to be offended by what he said.

''I didn't mean it like that.''

''I know.'' I smiled. ''I was just joking. But to answer your question, I am trying to control it. I just don't know how.''
