LAURA
''Teddy bear number fifty-three, did I just hear your stomach grumble? My, oh my!''
"Don't worry, Mama will get you some ribs!" I giggled. "What? You're allergic to ribs? Don't worry, Mama has not forgotten!" I then proceeded to get some shrimps-instead of ribs. Mimi, also known as teddy bear number fifty-three, is allergic to ribs and clams.
"Laura!" My mom yelled from downstairs. "Get down! We have a visitor!"
"Okay! Mimi, Mama will let you finish eat your food. I'll be down stairs, okay? If you need me, just call." I talked to the teddy bear like it was a person. Who am I kidding? Even if it fell or something, it wouldn't shout! It's just a thing! But hey, teddy bears are my thing.
"She is a special one," Darcy, one of my mom's friends commented chuckling. I smiled back; I didn't know if I should take it as a compliment or not. After all, no one besides my mom, dad, brother, and relatives talked to me. Yes, I was a loner, but so what? It's not like I was sad I was a loner- I prefer to keep to myself.
''Your mom here was just talking about the teddy bear collection that you have.'' Darcy filled me in.
I immediately perked up at the mention of 'teddy bears'. ''Y-Yeah, I have this weird obsession with them- they're just really cute.''
''I understand, I have a son around your age, and he's also obsessed with teddy bears!''
I smiled, not knowing what to say.
''You should meet him sometime,'' She continued. No, no, no! I'm positive I'd make a fool out of myself; every time someone normal talks to me, I talk in another language. Don't ask why. Darcy, was an exception, though. She knew me since I was little and she was considered as a family.
''Oh, I'd love to.'' I lied. I didn't know what to say; if I said no, it would hurt her.
''That's great!'' She sighed in relief. ''I already invited him over, if you don't mind. He's currently on Fifth Avenue with a few of his teddy bears. You guys can play with teddy bears and hang out!''
Great? How is it freakin' great, Darcy? I'm gonna embarrass myself infront of another person! It's nowhere near great!
''Oh.'' We live in the Eleventh Avenue, the upper class avenue, so it would take him at least ten minutes- by car, to arrive. That gives me time to prepare.
''Excuse me, I'm just gonna go change.'' I excused myself. I needed to try not to make a fool out of myself just this once. I mean, he probably is a loner, like me, that's why he has an obsession with teddy bears.
* * *
Wrong. I was so wrong. He was not a loner type of person who has teddy bears, his aura screams bad boy! When he saw me, his eyes widen in surprise before giving me the don't-tell-anybody-I-have-an-obsession-with-teddy-bears look, if there were a look like that.
My lower lip quivered. How can I play teddy bears with him?
''Excellent, honey! You're here!'' Darcy gushed giving him a hug. To my surprise, he actually hugged back!
''¿Qué acabo he metido?'' (What did I just get myself into?) I muttered.
''What did you say, darling?'' Darcy smiled, after kissing his son's cheeks.
''Oh, nothing. Just that I'm really really excited about getting to play dress-up with him!'' I gushed.
''Naw, that's so adorable,'' She gushed back. ''Honey, this is Laura. Laura, this is Robert.''
