Date Night

Tonight really is just like any typical date night that Matt and I would have. Tricia would go out with Christian to have dinner. Matt would come by and help me cook. We eat and watch a movie after. What's fun about those little movie nights is that we can analyze story arcs and themes and character development. We get to practice our craft without having to work for it. Or it's just an excuse for us to spend time together without having to leave the apartment and spend money we'd like to save instead. Besides, we 're not the type of couple to enjoy frivolities anyway. In Hollywood, we already live in that kind of world already. These kinds of dates serve as our rest from all that.

So like I said, tonight was just like all those other nights. But not really. Because in the middle of our pretty heated discussion in the middle of watching Twilight, we heard hurried knocks from my door.

"We'll continue this," I told Matt pointedly, standing up to get the door. "There has to be an explanation why those vampires don't sparkle in the middle of the parking lot." And Matt just chuckled, and we heard knocks again.

I opened the door, only to reveal Annabel and Jeremy.

"What brings you guys here?" I asked them.
"Can we please get in first?" Annabel asked in return.
"Sure. Sure." I said, opening the door to them. "Come in."
"Thanks." Jeremy said. He glanced at the TV screen and added, "Is that... Twilight?"
"Yes, Jeremy. We're trying critically analyze it." Matt defended, partly embarrassed with what we're watching.
"And here I thought you lost all that cultured pizazz. Apparently not." Jeremy replied, like he already expecting that was going to be Matt's reply.
"Okay... Let's get back to the subject. What brings you guys here so late?" I asked again.

They look at each other like they're contemplating whether or not to tell us. What could be so bad that they can't tell us about it? We've been friends for at least a year now. I think they could trust us.

"We were being chased by paparazzi." Annabel started. "We saw your apartment and thought it would be a good place to hide for a while."

Now that I've seen them properly, I was what they were wearing. Definitely outfits that normal people would wear, not too flashy. They even had sunglasses on their heads, which I assume they used while they walked here even if it was 10:30pm.

"Why were you being chased by the paparazzi though? Usually they'd just be really far away, trying to take sneaky photos. What made them so aggressive this time to run after you?" Matt chimed in.

"We were on a date." Annabel said suddenly.

"Wait. What?"

"How could you guys be on a--" Halfway through my question, I realized the implications of Annabel's statement. "You guys are together."

Jeremy just nodded.

"Since our first movie together." Annabel added.
"But I saw it on the news. You guys broke up." I said.
"We never did. We just had to say we did, because we never got some peace and quiet. Our families know, but they're sworn to secrecy. We just needed time for ourselves without having to worry about what the people would say. The media could get really overbearing."
"That's why we decided to do your movie too, so we can spend time together without it being so obvious that we just want to spend time together." Jeremy said, tugging Annabel near him, and she in turn wraps her arms around his torso.
"Wow. You guys are good. No wonder you're actors because that was quite a show you guys put in front of all of us. Acting like it was all platonic when it isn't. We had no idea." I said, just really surprised with the turn of events.
"And we worked together for almost a year and a half!" Matt sounded surprised too.
"It was really difficult for us, wanting to shout out to the world how much we love each other." Jeremy looks at Annabel lovingly, and continues. "But at the same time we know that this is what we want, what's better for us so we just stick with it."
"Well then, if you need any help, just call us. Your secret's safe with us." Matt promised, and I nodded in agreement.

I've never been so thankful I changed the names of these two actors to something else, because I would be breaking that promise. Why am I risking telling you all this now though? Because I need my readers to understand that actors are people too, that they need their privacy. These people should be shouting their love to the rooftops but their content with just being together, because they don't want it to be ruined by the media. The actor's life sure has it's perks, but behind all the glitz and glamour, there's a lot of downsides to it too.
