Meet-Cute

In every romantic comedy, there will always be a meet-cute. Meet-cutes happen when the two main leads meet and cuteness just overflows. It's like how Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks met on top of the Empire State Building in Sleepless in Seattle or how Keira Knightley and Matthew McFayden's eyes met at the beginning of the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. You just know through those meetings that these two people would end up together.

I'm having a really hard time in this part of the screen play. I write messy. I don't write in chronological order which sounds really bad and confusing. But it works for me. When I finish writing this part, I'd be done with the whole first draft of my screen play. And that is also why I haven't been writing on my blog lately. Thank you, dear readers, for being patient with me.

So yesterday afternoon, I was on my way to the coffee shop to get some inspiration. The last time I was there, I got it so maybe God would be really nice to me the second time and grant me the idea for the meet-cute. The coffee shop was just around the corner so I decided to grab my laptop and walk. Take the sights of city life in. All the palm trees. All the buildings. Beautiful.

And then, I bumped into someone. Obviously, this person is way bigger than me because it was me who fell on my butt in front of a lot of people. It was one of those moments when you just thank God you're not wearing a skirt.

"Are you alright? Mia? Mia Weston?" The person asked, sounding pretty concerned.

“Yeah. I’m okay. W-“ And then, I saw his face. “No way, it’s Matthew Pearson!” Matthew was my guy best friend from college. When Tricia wasn’t around or if I had guy problems, he was the person I ran to.

“I haven’t seen you since graduation!”

“That’s because you’re a hot shot now!”

“No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are, Mister Director of the Art of Falling! That movie is amazing, man! I’m proud of you!”

Scratching the nape of his neck, he said, “Thanks. It was a really good experience, working on that film.”

“I’m sure it is! I’m so excited for you! Are you working on anything now?”

“No, I’m not actually. But there are scripts being sent to me so I’m just reading all of it now. Hopefully, one of them sparks my interest.”

“That’s good.” Sometimes, when I think about him, especially with his success with the Art of Falling, I can’t help but be jealous. He’s on the top of his game and he just came out of college. It’s like what they said in Three Idiots: If your friend fails, you feel bad but if he gets higher than you, you feel worse. He’s still my friend though so I’m happy for him. Human nature, what can I say?

“How about you, Mia? Are you still writing?”

“Yeah! I’m almost done with my first screen play actually.”

“Really? Umm, there’s this coffee shop nearby. Can you tell me all about it over coffee?” I don’t know if it’s just me but he sure sounded like he was nervous. I mean, it’s just me. I should be the one getting nervous talking to him.

“Sure. I’d love that.”
