Okay. Let's make this incredibly fast because Mia is going to be back in thirty minutes. Where’s Mia, you ask? She's out grocery shopping. And if you’re also asking, no, this isn't the FBI or the CIA. Or is it?
Nahhh. I'm just messing with you. I'm Tricia McCollins and I'm Mia's best bud. :) We went through public school together and NYU together. Now, we're room mates.
Mia and I go way back we've been best friends ever since we were in kindergarten. But before all that, we were sworn archenemies. We liked the same boy, Jake Sanders. He was a really cute kid (ask anyone of his Facebook friends if he is now) and everyone liked him. So one day, I was just minding my own business watching Jake by the monkey bars in the playground when he decided to approach me with that grin on his face. Man, I thought, "This is the happiest day of my life!" But no, he humiliated me by showing every one the picture I drew him for his birthday. It was ugly, I know, but I worked really hard on that. All of our classmates, all of the people I thought were my friends laughed at me. And all I could do was turn red and cry. But Mia, that feisty kid with those golden milkmaid braids, went to my side and held my hand. I remember her tugging me away from all the noise and the kid surrounding us. We just ran. And when I cried in the rest room five minutes later, she was still there holding me with one hand and patting my back on the other. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
If Mia’s hasn’t mentioned it yet, I am a grad student also. Finished BS Econ in NYU. I’m currently job hunting and it hasn’t been very good to me. Looking for a job that can actually feed two people is like looking for an ironed shirt in the messy pile that I would like to call my closet. It will take you forever. But I have hope.
You might be thinking how I could stand Mia not looking for a job when I’m here working so hard just to feed us. It will always, always go back to the dream. It’s my dream to be one of those millionaire bankers in New York City. If I’m taking one step towards that dream by looking for a job, why can’t she? Mia’s dream is to become the best screenwriter in the United States. Why should I stop her and push her to pursue something else? That’s just unfair. I should be there for her, holding her hand and patting her back, just like what she did for me that afternoon.
And she’s doing her best to do stuff in the house while she’s writing. She cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for us. (I seriously don’t know how she does it—her omelettes are amazeballs) She picks up after my crazy mess. And let me tell you, my mess is just like those stuff you see in Clean House. The apartment actually looks big whenever she’s done. She’s such a blessing to me, I can’t even. And here’s the best part: she makes me read all the stuff she writes. She’s been writing something lately and I think it’s the one. I think this is going to give her her big break. She’s so talented.
What more of a best friend can I ask for?
P.S. Hehehe. Hi, Mia. I saw your laptop was open and I found the opportunity to hijack your blog.
P.P.S. I only said good things.
P.P.P.S. Promise. ;)
